If its Gruden it needs to happen sooner than later. If not, is end of December too late? I don't think we should do into the new year coachless....

If a top coach jumps over or makes lateral move shouldn't it be before their respective teams bowl game?

I think we need the entire month of January and maybe even half of December for recruiting purposes.....

SprinBok posted something last night. He said at least 2 other interviews must be given besides the guy we want. He also said that like 10 days the job has to remain open.

I think if its Gruden it happens next week. If it isn't, we have to start interviewing other coaches now that the season is over.

The chatter on Gruden is ramping up...I hope he is a good option for the longevity of this program. I would hate to see him come in, make a big splash then leave for the NFL or TV or whatever and set the program back to square 1 in a 3 years. Yes he may bring in big time recruits...but would they commit to TN or to Gruden then transfer out if he leaves.

If he loaded us up on great talent, and we go hire another high profile coach, the players would stay. If he has the program stocked on talent, another great coach would jump at the chance to take over with no rebuilding to do. I would make it very expensive for him to leave as well.

I don't see a downside for Gruden. If he comes here he will make us a powerhouse again. If he does decide to leave, we will be much like Fla or Ohio State, stocked with talent and able to pick up just where he leaves off. I am not saying he would leave. But he would bring in what we desperately need now and that is competitive players.

I understand your worries, however, truth be known very, very few players in NCAA choose the school. Most every one of them choose because of the coach. The loyalty and passion for the school is for us the fans and alumni. The players tend to get the emotional passion for the school upon becoming alumni themselves. The players however, pick coaches. Gruden would have an incredible following in that dept!

We hired Dooley like 72 hours after Kiffin left.

Um u do remember how horrid the timing was during that search right?? We didn't just get screwed we actually have time to make the RIGHT hire this time. Kippy Brown should've gotten a year interm HC instead of Fooley and then found one thenext year! Let's let Kippy go cause he makes Dumb'Rick work a little.

I went to the UTK job opening list and didn't find one for a head football coach:

https://ut.taleo.net/careersection/ut_knoxville/joblist.ftl

This is supposed to be the staff vacancies for external (non-UTK employees) job openings. Could the head football coaching vacancy be subject to a different set of rules?

I dont think they post the million dollar jobs or they would get to so many responses it would shut the server down lol.

theres no 10 day rule for the HC job at UT. 100% sure of that, makes me wonder where SBV gets his info

Not 100% on this OB, but I was thinking that it was more in the 10-14 day range.

Kiffin accepted the job at Southern Cal on January 12, 2010. Derek Dooley accepted the job at Tennessee on January 15, 2010.

OrangeBlazer is correct...approximately 72 hours later.

Reports of a 10 day job search requirement is apparently untrue, or UTK has implemented something between 2010 and now which I doubt.

Ok, sorry OB...I was wrong!

Chris Lowe said yesterday that UT wants a coach in place by the middle of December, since we have to start recruiting over again.
