What is hart waiting for?

I understand everyone's frustration, but Hart knows how to get this done. He's been through these types of situations at both FSU and Bama. Hamilton had no choice but to make his search public because of LK's sudden departure. Hart will let the $$$s do his bidding behind the scenes. No AD wants public announcements by coaches who have been approached and said no, especially those wanting pay raises based on UT's interest. Let's all be patient and let the process work. I would even venture to say that Dooley and the ACs have put out feelers about future jobs.

It sounds like you would make a great little lamb. I'm glad you don't believe in questioning what anyone does at their job unless you've done that job. I am also glad you won't be voting for a president next week.

I have no problem questioning authority or what someone might be doing. But to suggest that he's in over his head is absolutely moronic. You obviously have no idea about Hart's career if you think he doesn't know what he's doing.

Wait, what? How has Hart been through this situation before? Bowden was the coach at FSU the entire time he was there. And Saban was already the HC at Alabama when he got there.

Almost all coaching searches are conducted after a HC has been fired. They may not want to be turned down publicly, but it happens. There are worse things. Until the coach is fired and the search is made public, the AD is extremely limited when it comes to interviews and negotiations. That's why these things usually aren't kept under wraps and people don't normally have someone new just waiting to come in once the old guy is fired. It's hardly ever that tidy.

Read Basilio's blog today (scroll down). Sounds quite plausible to me.

The Tony Basilio Show

Based on an announcement on Tampa sports radio today I would say that Jon Gruden has received an offer to coach the University of Tennessee. He is in the process of reviewing it and deciding if he wants to move in that direction (e.g. coaching again ... and a college versus a pro team). There was also speculation that if the Phila Eagles did not make the playoffs Andy Reid would be terminated and Gruden would be offered that position.

The fact that Tampa radio is now even discussing a Gruden move to Knoxville would seem that the big donors at UT are putting the pressure on him to make the move and take the Vols to the next level again.

Only time will tell. Dooley will probably be here to the end of the season before anything happens.

Hart is waiting on a proven coach to become interested in the job opening. If no one that is a real improvement over Dooley is interested in the job, then Dooley will remain the coach, by default.
No need to fire Dooley and hire someone just like him. If we can't improve our coaching staff, then might as well keep Dooley in place and save the buy out money.

Agree!!

With no press conference scheduled, it doesn't look like Dooley's firing will be announced today.

What is Hart waiting for?

Plenty of sources suggest that Hart will let Dooley go at the end of the season, but I don't see the advantage in keeping it under wraps. Certainly, as a public institution, UT is very limited in its ability to find and hire a new coach until they take the firing and search public.

Waiting until the end of the season seems foolish. There really isn't anything to gain. There isn't a notable opponent left. There certainly aren't any streaks to keep alive. Our recruiting class is hardly stellar and would probably be better to disrupt and reorganize now than in December.

All waiting accomplishes is uncertainty for the staff and players, limited ability to negotiate with replacements, further diviseness amongst fans, more empty seats, and an ever shortening window of time to make a change.

Is Hart just being timid? Obviously, he hasn't had to fire a head football coach on this level before. Is he in over his head here?

i think hart is going to keep him around, which means we need a new AD as well.

Years from now, are we going to be on here asking "What if we hadn't wasted so much time courting a guy who was never seriously going to come here but instead went ahead and started a real coaching search before Texas, Auburn, Arkansas were able to snag x, y, and z?"

Then why not start last year if that's the case?

Probably should have. But Dooley got another shot and he's gone through every meaningful game on the schedule and emerged 0-5. There are no more opportunities to prove anything this season. It's over. Why not start the search?

Hart better have a great coach waiting to sign on the bottom line before he pulls the trigger. If he fires Dooley, and cannot find a top notch coach, we will be rolling the dice again. The wrong hire will set this program back another 5 years.

How much more evaluating is needed. Either fire him now. Or put out that you support Dooley! By not showing support sounds like he is still gone to me.

Only time and AD Hart will tell us what exactly is going on.

Nobody here knows anything and they won't until the press hears it from AD Hart.

The big $$$ boosters are smart business people and they know if they throw their money into the wrong new HC then in 4 or 5 years they'll be throwing more $$$ into another new HC and by then our Tennessee football program will be set BACK another 8 to 10 years or longer and then the big $$$ boosters will be too old to go to the games and won't care what happens.

Either get it done RIGHT this time or else give CDD and CSS another year to fix our defence and that will give AD Hart and our big $$$ boosters another year to try and find their homerun hire if CDD doesn't Win the SEC East next season.

Like this presidential election....this is the most important hire/vote of our Nation/program.

If they were smart business people, they wouldn't have hired Dooley in the first place. Look at what that is costing UT.

I don't get this whole "another wrong hire sets us back ____ years" argument. Dooley is the original wrong hire. The longer he stays, the further we're set back. Sure, you don't want to make the same mistake again, but there are hundreds of coaches out there more qualified than Dooley. Have some guts and move on.

Unfortunately, it won't go down much at all for 2-3 more years. Do you have any idea how much money will be lost from ticket sales/donations in that time?
