What is going on?

Don't even say that as a joke. At least 20% of this board will believe it.

Haha half joking, trying to make sense of all this. Maybe it's for a Miles staff.

Interviewing 3 stellar DCs with strong recruiting histories. Talking to Tee. Certainly seems like building a staff since none of these guys have been in HC discussions anywhere else.

I can at least hope

I will support Fulmer but we must remember how hard headed he was about Randy Sanders :banghead2:

Phil,
Please take a pass on Steele!!! :mf_surrender:

Yup. He held onto Randy until his own job security was threatened. Loyalty is an admirable quality, but only to a point. Towards the end of his tenure, Phil had gotten stale and stubborn. We look back on him fondly now but remember 2 out of the last 4 seasons under Phil were 5-7, just a smidge better than we were last year, and his recruiting (which had always been his calling card) had slipped big time.

We got rid of a guy who wanted to do it his way and replaced him with a guy who wants to do it his way.

This. There is no way that Davenport can survive this debacle. UT ranks in top 3 in nation in revenue. Top facilities, Top stadium and a storied program with the most passionate fans in the world and she has almost toppled everything with her incompetence in less than a year. I am speechless that we are here -- - today having to talk about Steele possible being our head coach. AD's and College Presidents across the nation will be using this debacle as a teaching tool for generations. Currie - No prior experience hiring a head coach = Fulmer - No prior experience hiring a head coach. WOW is all i can say.

I think that a lot of coaches are really not interested at this point. Lots of extensions getting signed with lots of coaches already hired and changing, along with hiring staffs. Yes I’m sure he has not checked with Kiffin or Leach, and we knew those would not fly with Fulmer anyway most likely. I believe he has probably kicked a lot tires that wil never get reported, and is probably down to the ones that are truly interested from both sides. I really hope Tee winds up as part of whatever hire that happens.

Not to argue too much, but when should we have fired Sanders exactly? People say this all the time, but his two worst seasons as coordinator, were 8-3 regular seasons, until 05 in which he was fired before the end of the season. I’m not saying he was the greatest offensive mind since Steve Spurrier, but it’s not nearly as bad as gets repeated.

Did he have some games that could’ve been called better, of course. But I remember some well called games as well. I also remember games that were dictated, but we lost because of key turnovers. Overall I say he was a lot better than is given credit for.

The old “believe none of what you hear and half of what you see” saying couldn’t be more appropriate in our situation. I’m thinking that phrase must’ve been created by a VFL. I’m not taking anything seriously anymore until someone is standing behind the mic with a power T pin on their jacket.

He should have been fired in 2003 or 2004. Yes, I know it is difficult to fire coaches after 10-3 seasons, but the offense was stagnant in those years and we won games because of the defense. Look at some of the point totals in individual games. Sanders ran such a predictable, bland offense. I remember watching the games in those days with my dad and we'd both be calling the play before it was even run.

I thin it says a lot about Sanders that since Fulmer fired him, he's been an OC at Kentucky and just a co-OC at FSU. Not exactly big time jobs.
