What is going on with Jujuan?

Seems to me as if Jujuan is struggling terribly in recent games. Today, he had 6 of our 10 turnovers and many of his passes were lackadaisacal and could have resulted in even more turnovers. His shot selection was terrible, especially at critical times in the game. His defense in the last four minutes was good, but prior to that I just did not see much effort. We need our seniors to be leaders and examples. Is it time for Bruce to start bringing him off the bench once again? He is very capable of playing with much more passion.

I agree we cant have this type of play if we want to get to the finals of anything.

Pearl talked about JS specifically in the post game. He praised him. He said JuJuan didn't shoot the ball well and turned it over some but he was a leader. Smith talked to the team and the 3:47 mark..I assume about not getting outplayed down the stretch. Pearl also noted that Smith "guarded". He played good D all night and played the most minutes of anyone on the team.

Had we had better shot selection and at least held our own on the boards, then we would have won this game going away. Our assist-to-turnover margin and 15 steals were the difference maker.

That behind-the-back pass he made was unacceptable. I think he tries to do much, he's a great athlete but he could cost us a game if he doesn't figure it out.

I think Pearl tries to "protect" his players sometime, and I understand his relationship with Jujuan is important to him, but I think he hurt us today. He was much more active the last 4 minutes, and while that shows good leadership, I would have liked to have seen steals, etc the first 36 minutes of this game.

Jujuan's play isn't very smart at times, he's very talented but his play is better fit on a playground not on a SEC court. He is either really good or really stupid - no medium w/ him. I think he hurts the team more than helps. I say give his minutes to someone else.

Great win today!!! Several guys played well, few guys didn't but bottom line great win against a solid team.

I think a lot of it is role clarity... this team has changed in the last year with all the additions. He is trying to figure out exactly where he fits into the whole scheme. Pearl is a great coach at letting them figure it out versus forcing the issue...

The COLLECTIVE UPSIDE of this team is scary. If they play with smarts, poise, and passion..........along with intensity..........the sky is the limit. They are making progress and roles are being defined. I can't wait for January to roll around. Go Vols!!!!

I've said since the 1st regular season game that Jujuan is hurting us offensively. He's a "good" defensive player (not excellent), but I do like his intense attitude. Jujuan should drive and dish more often, rather than jacking up 3s. I don't have a problem with anybody taking an open shot, Chism and Childress included.

One thing about today's game I liked was that we played a half court, slower tempo game and got the win. Xavier was a pretty good team, probably better than 1/2 our conference teams.

I think Pearl is protecting Jajuan because ... wait for it ... Jajuan is the leader of this team. Leaders aren't always the ones who score the most points or have the most rebounds (see Dane Bradshaw). A lot of times it comes down to personality and experience. Jajuan has come from being a walk-on to being a valuable member of top-ranked Division 1 team. The younger players look up to him, and (unlike C-Lo) he's vocal enough to assume a leadership role.

With that said, he stunk it up big-time today -- at least on offense. Six turnovers and 1-5 from the floor is terrible. His defense seemed solid (was at the game, so it was sort of hard to follow). Still, I'll defer to Pearl on how Smith did courtside -- he's very important to this team, even if he doesn't play particularly well.

You have to remember - as AmoebaVol said - Jajuan was a walk-on at one point. There were reasons why this guy wasn't recruited by all the big boys and he shows it a lot. He's very, very streaky and he does make bad decisions. He wasn't some McDonald's AA or 4 or 5 star recruit. Granted he can be a very good player when he plays with in his game or gets hot shooting.

I agree with that he shows signs of being great, but others of being that walk on. Could it be because he is feeling some heat from j.p.?

I don't know, but he just makes some plays that make you scratch your head. That behind the back pass today, the 360 dunk against SC last year, etc. He needs to play within himself and be more aggressive at times. He can put up 25 in a half(MTSU) or go four or five games shooting 20% from behind the arc

He won the game for UT today with his defense at the end of the game, but he is way out of control with shot selection
