Hello VolNation..
Now I'm sure some of you are wondering what am I doing around here..or if I'm here to start trouble...no worries guys and gals...I am a fan of college football.
As a USC fan, (the real USC) I only wish Kiffin the best. He is strongly connected with both of our programs and that means we have common ground. But there's more to it than that.
Tennessee from what I can see is a program on the rise..I was horrified when Paul Hackett was our head coach. He did foolish things, called foolish plays and USC couldn't have fired him a minute too soon. Enter Pete Carrol..the rest is history.
Lane Kiffin has all the tools necessary to turn this program around. And hopefully he uses Pete Carroll's 3 step philosophy..
First year: Observation.
See what is exactly wrong with the program, break bad tendencies and change the mind set. *Do not have high expectations even though Kiffin has held his own against the nations elite thus far. After all, he is inheriting any and everything at this point. This is a defensive year. There is no way to completely revamp the offense, but keeping games close will give you a chance against anyone.
Second Year : Implementation
Inject the program with a heavy dosage of your system but don't over do it. Reveal more schemes and hold players accountable to your system. *This is more of an offensive based year. The defense will get better but offensive development is key..expectations will be higher but again don't buy your SEC championship ticket yet.
Third Year : Execution
The Vols will be very...and I repeat very dangerous in year three. The Defense will only get better and based on the way Lane is recruiting there will be some play makers on both sides of the ball. By now there should be a Heisman hopeful and so other award finalist playing for the Vols..
It gets me excited to see all the enthusiasm around here...the board has very positive energy.. Good luck against the Shamecocks..not that you'll need it.
