What if

9-3??

There is no chance of 9-3 and for that matter 6-6 could be doubtful. It appears to me this team is in the process of giving up. The reaction of the receiver on the first play (ga. game) said it all for me. He acted like "dam-, what the hel- did he throw that for". The whole offense seemed to act like "oh well, here we go again" until it was "oh, well here we are again. That mind set finally rubbed off on the defense and they and we got what we got.

I don't see 9-3 either. But I was responding to the thread possibility. Thus team could tank after a loss to Carolina and a thumping to Alabama. I could easily see this as our first 8 loss team.

All of what Vol fans are seeing is not 100% on the QB's. Receivers have to be able to adjust their routes and then the QB's have to react to that. This isn't happening. QD does have a bad flaw of not planting his back foot and getting zip on the ball. He has accuracy problems and isn't comfortable in the pocket. Palmer, against UGA, ran a perfect hitch-n-go route down the sideline and had separation and I be damn if that pass fell 5-6' short of where it needed to be.Result=INT. I repeatedly see this from QD. Why did we even hire a QB coach?

A receiver in football has a definite advantage over a defender and these tactics aren't being utilized by UT's offense. A coaches way out is to come up with a new term "50-50 ball". Really makes me wanna laugh. A true losers mentality. I'll quickly mention the back shoulder pass and a quick curl in that there's no way a defender can get into position to make a play on the ball. So when we're evaluating our QB's we need to consider that we also have receivers with little experience and what's looking like under-achieving coaches. Three and out is getting to me and these bread and butter plays should be the plays we practice the most. Remember the quick slant we tried on the goal line against UF that ended in INT? Just a matter of the QB's and receivers developing the ability to "know" exactly where the ball is gonna be placed before the snap. Our staff either doesn't put in enough time to get this right or we don't have the athlete's capable of making simple plays. I do know that QD is often off-target with a large % of his passes. I haven't seen enough of JG to draw a conclusion yet.:twocents:

I'm one that has given up on Butch as well, I rally like him as a personal, but he isn't the right coach right now. BUT if CBJ puts in JG, and turns this season around (I know very unlikely) we finish 9-3 plus a win in a bowl game. Would you be happy with Butch with JG, Kelly, and weapons coming back?

YourIF scenario isn't likely to happen in the 1st place. IF, by chance it would occur then J.Kelly would likely lead the SEC in rushing or be near the top because our QB's and receivers aren't gonna win us many games. Then Kelly would opt for the draft but his back-ups are close to him considering their youth. Our D is improving and our OL should be meshing as a unit. My answer would be yes.
As far as UT football is concerned,I'm looking forward to a new HC and a very good OC and crossing my fingers that we get A.Martinez from Calif. to be our new QB. I've said this many times and will keep saying it because it's possible. Three UT offensive alumni, T.Martin, R.Sanders, and J/B.Cooter, any one of them, or a combination of them would help our offense be better than what it is now. Also we could retain most of our coaching staff and offset some of the buyouts. There's a lot of working scenarios with these fellows and they are somewhat familiar with the pressures of coaching in the SEC plus depending on if any of these 3 would consider coming to UT it wouldn't necessarily mean that they would be immediate HC but it is just a matter of time before 2 of them will be named a HC somewhere. I say this because our offense needs fixin in a bad way. Our current offense surely isn't "complementing" our defense which I think is improving.:twocents:

Everyone keeps talking 9-3 And win a bowl game. Say we do but lose to Bama 65-6 and the other games we win but so ugly it's like watching paint dry. We would be 9-3 But feel like we went 6-6. I like the idea of 9-3. But if we don't show in that scenario that we can compete with top 10 teams we need to move a different direction.
I'm curious to people's thoughts on this scenario. And what if we also face a decent bowl team and get blown out finishing 9-4? What then??

This is my feeling. Just because we finish 9-3 doesn't mean we have accomplished much. Our schedule was very light this year other than Alabama and Georgia. All 9-3 would mean is that we are one of the better bad teams.

You are the fan that no coach wants supporting his team.

Are we also assumming JG is sooooo good that his playmaking can overcome CBJ's horrendous game time decisions? Or, are you assuming the team found a lid for the Team 121 trash can and stuffed CBJ in it during the final 7 games? I don't see a 3rd option?
