Lane the kif was here this year with the same team, same injuries, and same record as we now have. Would he be fired at the end of the year?

He'd be giving the #6 Team in the country with most likely the #1 QB draft pick a game...

Wait? What?

He wouldnt be fired because he'd be bringing in quality talent yearly full of highly rated headcases with their mind on the NFL, his media "character" had made him a celebrity villain, & honestly I think he'd have found some way to make adjustments which Dooley can't seem to do.

We'd probably be at 5-3. He'd have found a way to win the UGA game & Florida game.

But.....he would have done so much damage to this program's reputation by then we'd be on par with the middle 90's Miami Hurricanes. Probation, Fan hate, & talented thugs on the field representing the team.

Kiffin appeared to be recruiting as many "false blue chips" as Fulmer did in his later years. He may have attracted hyped prospects, but that doesn't mean he recruited well.

Good God, a reasoned analysis of Kiffin's strengths and weaknesses. You're on the wrong forum!

Cant call them false blue chips. Fulmer's guys got to college and underwhelmed before they got the boot.

The problem is that Kiffin took the headcases other schools would have not wanted to deal with. There is no doubt he was bringing in talented blue chip players. You can go down the line with his recruits, but the key factor would've been for Kiffin to keep them happy. A lot of them were/are still solely focused on getting to the NFL rather than caring about college football.

Thats why I made the comparison to those mid 90's Miami teams. A bunch of talented knuckleheads. But the key word is talented.

Can't call them false? I beg to differ.

Im now second guessing a comment I made 20 minutes ago.

Would I rather be a 5-7 UT team under Dooley or a 7-5/8-4 team with a "The U" like feeling to them while on probation.

Lets go down the line with Kiffin's recruits if you really want to.

We're speaking strictly on hypothetical situations but I have far more faith in those guys being productive players here at Tennessee than Fulmer's overrated recruits who never produced.

They were "Kiffin's guys" and they would've been successful under Kiffin. Mostly all are gone now for various reasons, but thats all water under the bridge now.

While the sample size is small, I wouldn't say that they've lived up to their supposed talent level, either. Lots of them can already be deemed failures.

Well look at the situations they left to go to compared to the situation they expected to be in here under Kiffin.

I means seriously, we had the #1 recruit in the country. His whole plan for his college career was ruined by Kiffin leaving and now hes back in Knoxville trying to enter the 2012 NFL Draft based off of his freshman year here.

Small sample size of course consdering he saved a failed 2009 recruiting class with Fulmer and brought in a bunch of talented headcases looking for immediate PT for their NFL dreams.

But I have no doubt he wouldn't have continued that recruiting success although with the same type of character personalities.

That's the thing, though. Fulmer recruited similar kinds of players and it blew up in his face later on in his tenure. Obviously he brought in a lot of talent, but the talent was much more high risk - meaning, in all likelihood, it isn't going to live up to its initial ranking. Dooley's recruiting higher character players and, while it's too early to judge on that as well, the classes of 2010 and 2011 look awfully promising thus far.
