What if White stands pat with Steele?

There are worse choices. That choice would hurt recruiting but would give Chadwell time to validate his success and put another year between Freeze and his trouble. Also wouldn't have as much of the NCAA thing hanging over their heads.

Heard him friday evening on interview say he won't make a decision that compromises his checklist. This guy's got some mojo and think he'll fill it pretty quick. Amazing what we're hearing this time around of coaches interested in TN when there's not clown car in town.

It's possible. Depending on the sanctions. It may come down to giving Steele another shot at becoming a HC. I know most folks will scoff at that. But if he can handle it, or perhaps thrive with it? It would be very Tennessee to finally be brought out of the pit they are in by one of their own.

If we wait until next year then we are fishing in the same waters as 20 or more Universities trying to catch the big one. Right now we are the only hook in the water that has a fresh nightcrawler on it.

Haslam was at the bball game last night shaking hands with him so I’d guess the clown car is still running.

It would also give Kiffin another year at Ole Miss. It might make that deal easier to justify.

I don't think it happens though. You either make Steele full-time coach, or you move on.

An interim would not be your first option but there would be some upside, possible better definition about the NCAA penalties, opportunity to get self imposed restrictions in place and a clean year on the compliance and recruiting side, get through remaining Covid attendance restrictions in Fall 2021, give Kiffin an opportunity to hang 60 on Tennessee in Neyland and let everybody see if he has grown up and matured

I'm fine with rolling Steele for a year if it means we get a better coach at the end of next season.

No more first time head coaches. No more reaches just to fill the spot.

I think you lose two recruiting classes instead of one. And you waste money with temporary staff.
True. Ideal scenario would be for us to be able to hire someone good now. But, if white finds out that none of his targets are that interested due to awaiting ncaa punishments, then it could be more harmful to hire someone with not much experience. I’m trusting in him.
