I've touched on this in other threads, but a theory my bro in law is that Currie doesn't want to fire Jones if he can help it.

His theory is that Currie knows he'll most likely have to fire Warlick at the wnd of bball season, so he doesn't want to fire Jones, because Currie doesn't want to have to fire his two coaches from his two top programs.

So if Jones can squeak out a bowl or maybe even 5-7 record then Currie will keep him for another year

You haven’t said you wouldn’t be shocked if Jones was our coach in 2018. Rather, you’ve said time and time and time again that Butch isn’t getting fired, thus pretty much saying he’ll definitely be our coach in 2018. Don’t start hedging now, stick with it.

a buddy of mine and i were talking about VOL football and all this mess and his little
girl asked a very interesting question ----

she asked "Daddy, what would happen if Tennessee's band forgot how to play Rocky Top ?"

sometimes kids see things in very interesting ways.

It doesn't matter then, the ship is past bailing out. It's going down if we lose to Southern Miss.

Whatever would be left of the teams spirit would be broken.

If we lose to Southern Miss, it's over, we will blow right past our first 8 loss season and go straight to our first 9 loss season.

I think we need to give Currie a little credit for knowing what needs to happen. If you fire Jones mid season and hang an interim tag on anyone currently on staff.. they have a reasonable successful record at seasons end... it opens the door to a situation similar to LSU and Orgeron... with a faction wanting to hire the interim. Much better to wait to seasons end and hire a qualified coach. Chances are we cant contact a coach whos still employed at this point of season anyhow!

Well I am not passing on any inside info. This is at best a rumor from someone else who posted it....and at worst a lie. However I'll tell what was said NOT BY ME.

Gruden is basically already hired for 4-5 years. With Kiffin as his OC and HC in waiting.

Supposedly coming from the wife of a big donor.

:popcorn:..wow, that's gotta be a lie because I heard from a guy whose friend knew a man that said his dad's boss's secretary swears she overheard a conversation that Bill Belichick is already hired and that Gruden will be the OC...but you didn't hear from me
