It doesn't really matter... but I don't see any basis for this. The results speak for themselves. Dooley won 4 SEC games in 3 seasons. We were never anywhere near as good under Dooley, as we were under Butch in 2015. I can't believe I sound like I'm defending Butch, who I have zero respect for... but some of the posts in this thread about Dooley are delusional.I actually think Dooley was a way better coach than butch. I voiced that on here and was absolutely blasted by the vol faithful that were drinking the butchaide. Dooley was a smart guy and a really good football mind. But he had some huge deficiencies. Mainly...work ethic. Recruiting is to a large extent all about work ethic. Sabans assistants work 100+ hour weeks. For comparison purposes...Dooley once tore his acl waterskiing during the season. Saban barely goes home during the off season. You’d never catch him out enjoying some down time the week of a huge rivalry game. Dooley was dealt a difficult hand as he was the third coach in a little over 2 years so his roster had went to hell. He also came in very late in the process. Dooley is now a lot older and wiser and I’d say would probably do much better if given another opportunity to be a head coach.
OP, I agree w one thing. It's NOT meth. It's ...View attachment 220789
Derek's downfall was being a dick head that his great defensive coordinator or any of the other coaches could get along withCan't tell if this is serious, but I'll bite...
I actually agree with a bit of that. Dooley's downfall was hiring a new DC that wanted to switch to a 3-4 in his 3rd year. Our offense was nasty in 2012... really fun to watch. Our defense was one of the worst I've ever seen that year.
However, if I'm not mistaken, he recruited 0 offensive linemen one year (maybe his last year), which is pretty unforgivable. In fact, I seem to recall everyone talking about how bad of a situation Jones inherited because of that very thing.
Anyway, he doesn't make that DC hire, and he might still be here... orange pants and all.
Just look at what Missouri has been doing since he took the OC position there. Meaning we would have never seen the like of Mike "cuck" Deboard or Tyson Helton. That alone is worth a few wins in itself.
Guys, I want you all to just hear me out as this opening line may shock you. If Derek Dooley never would have been fired Tennessee would be a perennial powerhouse with at least two national championships under his regime right now. Some of you may wonder what brand of meth I am on. I assure you its nothing but good ole oxygen and water in this body. Let me at least cite 1-2 of the many reasons why this is a fact. If Derek Dooley was never fired we would have been scoring with the best of teams in the SEC. Just look at what Missouri has been doing since he took the OC position there. Meaning we would have never seen the like of Mike "cuck" Deboard or Tyson Helton. That alone is worth a few wins in itself. We would have also had stability and discipline. Derek Dooley was a hardnose, smashmouth coach who didn't take crap from anyone. He made the players learn everything from shower techniques to proper alignment on the field. The program was trending in an upward direction as Dooley hit the dusty trail. Butch didn't inherit a mess. Butch inherited a team of well rounded athletes that were prime for a title run and pissed it away. Derek Dooley catches a lot of heat for the time he spent here. I am here to say that was unjust and we should be apologetic to him. Derek Dooley, I appreciate your greatness and the amazing things you did during your tenure at Tennessee.
Were you born in 2008?........wait my bad Tennessee was better the year before he got there and has been better since (some).
If you think the doofy era was one of the all time great eras........you either really dumb, or your doofy’s kid or you are in fact doofy himself.........but you can’t be doofy cause even he knows he sucked badly and dragged Tennessee to the bottom of the barrel.
Where did I say the Dooly era was one of the all time great eras? I'm guessing you don't get invited to many parties..
Shut this thread down after this post right here!Right. You can tell how many people agree with you by the number of head coaching jobs he's held in the intervening 6 years.
Let me refresh everyone's memory:
- allowed Troy 720 yards of offense
- lost to LSU due to 13 men on the field
- completely forgot about offensive linemen one recruiting season
- failed to even score 14 points in HALF of our games in 2011
- lost to a bad, bad KY team, breaking a quarter-century streak
- Music City Meltdown
- shunned VFLs, did not establish relationships with area HS coaches
- was a general d-bag by all accounts that I've heard
