While in-state recruiting is improving, TN has to recruit nationally. That is why we have the biggest recruiting budget. We have to stand toe-to-to with GA in recruiting Atlanta. We have to own SW Virginia and Eastern Carolinas (where Clemson is eating our lunch right now). Then go and pull some kids out of the Chesapeake area in VA and So Cal. What do we need to do all of those things...we need to improve our national brand. We gotta make a bowl next year and win a game in which we are a decided underdog (i.e. Auburn, GA, or Bama. What's the quickest way to do that? Find yourself a transformative Coach or QB...another Dobbs, Manning, Manziel, Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield type that elevates the rest of the offense...now maybe JG or Shrout is that guy. Option B...maybe Helton's offense will be unstoppable and just make JG or Shrout look better than they actually are. Arkansas had unprecedented success with a transformative coach, Petrino (say what you will about his character, but he's a heckuva football coach). Now without him they have regressed. For Arky to surpass Bama, LSU, Auburn, Morris is going to have to out-scheme the competition.
