What if Fulmer goes 7-5

If we get to 7-5, it will basically mean this year was 2002 part 2. Which means Fulmer is safe.

7. Weak recruiting overall. Regardless of what rivals' or scouts' rankings say about our recruiting classes, they are not top notch. It seems that most articles about commitments we get end with a line like this...."John E. Recruit chose UT over Vandy, Cincinatti, and NC State."

I could go on, but you get the point. The time has come for change. I live in FL and have watched FSU flounder for years now b/c they won't make Bobby B. go. Phil has not earned the courtesy that they are extending Bobby by letting him hang on. Losing a few games is excusable, but losing them b/c of the reasons I listed above is a clear lack of leadership.

Amen brother! I've been preaching the same script for three years now, and up until this year I've been branded a nega-Vol and not a true fan. Believe it or not, I actually trace the fall of the program to the de-committment of Chris Simms (we haven't been the same since then...)

7-5 is a pipe dream, but if he does it he'll be welcomed back. it sucks but as long as we sell tickets and get bowl money hambone will fight change. basically he doesn't want to risk the bottom line for a shot at championships, and he doesn't have to. with the b-ball team playing well the football team doesn't have to get bcs money to keep the dept going. when football funded everything this would not be acceptable, but now we get NCAA tourney cash, so we can afford a mediocre football team. however we will in all liklihood miss a bowl this year which could cause a drop in ticket sales. if that happens then hamilton will be forced to make a move, and thats the only way it'll happen.

+1, 2002 was the year I realized UT would struggle to compete for championships as long as Fulmer was coach. Unfortunately I think 2008 is the year I realized UT will struggle to make a bowl as long as Fulmer is coach.

7-5 = minor bowl--UT's brilliant athletic dept. gives fulmer another raise, contract extension and bigger buyout.

It's not like the great teams of the mid-90s were packed with angels. Most don't remember because of the success of the team.

As for on the field, if you take a bunch of penalties and you win, it's because "they play with passion". If you lose, it's because "they're so undisciplined".

Beside the point. I seem to remember Billy Ratliff choosing between UT and a junior college in Mississippi. Peerless Price was basically a recruiting afterthought.

I'm sorry, but the team I have been watching this year will probably beat Miss State, but it's no given. I think they lose to Bama, South Carolina, and Vandy!

I don't see a 7 win season but if he pulls it off it still sucks and everyone at UT knows it.

We will finish the season 5-7...That is really what I see. With losses to Bama, USC, and Vandy.

I would say he would have to be extremely lucky to finish the season 5 -1. Either way he still goes because he lost to Fla again.

I cant see 7-5
Miss St, Alabama, South Carolina, Wyoming, Vandy, Kentucky
We loose to Al. and without improvement we could loose any of these aside from Wyoming.

Tennessee wins at home over Mississippi State, Wyoming, and Kentucky. Road woes may continue, but typically... even in "most" down years, the SC and Vandy games end up the W column. On paper, Alabama looks like the Vols will be destroyed. However, I've seen too many unpredictable games with those 2 teams take the field.

Unless the offense drastically improves, I don't see the season ending any better than 6-6. If the Vols have 6 losses after the next 3 games, they'll probably tank against Vandy and Kentucky in the last 2 games to finish 4-8.

I don't care if the teams in the 90's had angels, or if these teams have angels, that's not my point. I'm arguing that the team lacks leadership, on and off the field.


My point is not penalties, it's no discipline. Not tucking the ball away like you're taught when you 8 years old and every year after that through high school. Not jumping offsides on 3rd and 1. Besides, I rarely hear anyone say winning with penalties is playing w/passion. I hear them say that penalties are going to cost a team a game sooner or later. A team cannot expect to win when they continually make those kinds of mistakes. And again, it a symptom of a bigger problem...leadership.


Great!!! so we score 30 point/game in '00 and '01 and never again until '07. And in '07 we pad those stats with games against So. Miss, Arkansas St., and Louisiana Lafayette.

Fulmer not taking responsibility is not irrelevant. It's a sign of a lack of leadership and accountability.

Not having playmakers is irrelevant to team success????? Are you kidding?? Making plays and scoring don't help a team win?? You're right, we don't need speed on O, or on D, we don't need difference makers. Fast backs and fast receivers are overrated, and are definitely things that the Tennessee football program should avoid like Phil avoids the salad bar. What was I thinking??? My apologies.


Billy Ratliff was a plug on the D-Line, a role player, so what. Al Wilson was highly sought after. So was L. Little. So was Peyton Manning. So was Jamal Lewis. Peerless was a "recruiting afterthought". Yeah, and became a hell of a player. The guys that Phil is edging out UAB to bring in to K-ville are NOT making things happen like Peerless did. So call it poor recruiting, poor player development, or whatever, I'll call it poor leadership and poor coaching.

Then God help you, because no amount of logic or reason can. Write your check to UT to contribute to Phil's extension this year and reward poor fundamentals, poor execution, and mediocrity for as long as you please. I"ll pass.

There's not a game on that list with the possible exception of Wyoming that one could safely say Tennessee will probably win. We could very easily get Croomed just like Vandy did. Not to mention 7-5 doesn't rise to the mandated 8 wins.
