Looking at the remaining schedule:

Losses: Alabama
Wins: Miss St, South Carolina, Wyoming, Vandy, Kentucky

Suppose Fulmer survives the gauntlet in November of SC, Vandy, and KY and manages to get to 7-5. Does that mean he gets a raise and contract extension? Do Vols fans start jumping out of buildings? Playing devil's advocate here.

Still mediocre, no matter how you cut it. Fulmer needs to retire unless the fan base is happy with this level of performance.

8 wins for a raise and/or extension so that won't cut it. I have to think a loss to Alabama and the damage is done.

Who cares if we go 7-5?? If it wasn't clear yesterday watching our sideline demeanor that we have no energy or heart for the most part, then you might want to get some new glasses. We need new people on the sideline to give us a new energy that we haven't had since essentially when Fulmer was put into the HC position. When the bread gets stale, you go buy new bread instead of eating the old.

0 wins against ranked opponents. It really should seal the deal but at 7-5, Fulmer will be back next year.

I don't think anyone on this board wants to see Fulmer retained, at least 75% don't. I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

Fulmer can still manage to go 7-5 and end up in the Music City Bowl or Peach Bowl. If he gets a win there, 8-5.

8-5 and a Peach Bowl is a pretty typical Fulmer season this decade. I'm sure that is the scenario Fulmer has in the back of his mind. Then what happens? In the past that has gotten Fulmer a pass.

It's a valid point and I hear what you are saying. My personal feeling is the unrest amongst donors and fans has reached critical mass. Something has to change -- let's just hope it's the change we want.

I think if Fulmer had lost to Kentucky last year (to prevent us from representing the East) and he goes 8-5 this year, we may have seen a change.

But the fact that he won the East last year will probably keep him around.

7-5 he's safe. A horrible bowl game performance, say like the 2002 Peach Bowl, might factor into it but I doubt it; though I'm sure a great bowl performance would be used for Fulmer's positive i.e. we blowout whoever we play and suddenly things are "looking up".

I'd go so far as to say that 6-6 he's probably safe, but I'm thinking we lose at South Carolina and at Vandy, to go along with a home loss to Alabama. And that's assuming we can beat Ketucky at home.

4-8. 7-5 is dream world for this team. They look like they want to pack it in right now. No story book ending this year, just more of the same.

He's probably safe if he goes 7-5 because to get to 7-5 this team will have to undergo some amazing improvement. Honestly I think7 wins is a pipe dream.

If Fulmer were to get a 7-5 record . I am almost sure he would be safe. Hamilton and co would just say we got off to a bad start because of the new qb, oc, etc...
Things would have to get alot better with this team for that to happen. I am not sure we will get it done against vandy.

I heard from a friend who is close with the athletic department earlier this season after the UCLA loss. He said that the latest he heard indicated that if fulmer lost 4 sec games it was all over for him. He has been pretty reliable in the past and if his information is accurate with 3 losses already fulmer is gone for sure. No way we can get past the rest of schedule without losing another most likely to bama

Step back and take a look at things. We are 2-4 with six games left. One of those games is a guaranteed loss (Bama), one is a guaranteed win (Wyoming), and the other four are toss-ups. So to even make a bowl, we have to go 3-1 against Miss St., South Carolina, Kentucky, and Vandy. Unless something clicks between now and the end of the season, I don't see that happening.

Surely two losing seasons out of four would be enough to seal Fulmer's departure...

if bama rolls into Ktown ranked #1, and we knock them off, fulmer may be here next year regardless.

short of that, i think he is gone at the end of this year.

only a few really know, however -- the rest of us get to guess.

If he goes 7-5 and the team shows it is improving, I think he's got a real good chance of being retained. Not quite sure that can happen at this point though.

7-5 would keep his job another year. I don't see it happening though. Bama and Vandy will probably beat us. We got lucky with both UK and SC last year so I wonder if we will beat both of them. 6-6 or 5-6 seems more realistic.

In the past the schedule from mid season to the end has helped Fulmer pad his "Win" column and make it appear he's still doing well in SEC play. Not going to happen this time pal.

Baring some miracle like the plague on Bama we'll have four losses and it's to the ones you "have to beat". MissSt, KY and Vandy's game has improved while ours has slipped so no more freebies. I won't be surprised by (5) SEC losses though I'd like otherwise.

We'll lose 6 in conference this year. This bunch has three more league losses in them

Doesn't matter to me if we win out and win the poulan-weed eater bowl this december. And it didn't matter last year when we went to the SEC CG. I have been begging for a change at the top for several years, and have argued heatedly with my dad about it (he has finally seen the light this year). To me, here's what we get with Fulmer.....
1. Undisciplined play on the field (personal fouls, fumbles, illegal procedures, poor tackling, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.)
2. Undisciplined player conduct off the field (academic suspensions, fights in bars, fights at intramural b'ball games, arrests, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.)
3. Predictable, pedestrian offensive performance since the turn of the century.
4. Average to below-average defensive performance every season except '98.
5. Excuse making and refusal to accept responsibility for losses in every postgame interview by PF.
6. No game-breaking athletes (other than Eric Berry) wearing orange in years. Last one I remember is Donte Stallworth, and Meacham, i guess.
7. Weak recruiting overall. Regardless of what rivals' or scouts' rankings say about our recruiting classes, they are not top notch. It seems that most articles about commitments we get end with a line like this...."John E. Recruit chose UT over Vandy, Cincinatti, and NC State."

I could go on, but you get the point. The time has come for change. I live in FL and have watched FSU flounder for years now b/c they won't make Bobby B. go. Phil has not earned the courtesy that they are extending Bobby by letting him hang on. Losing a few games is excusable, but losing them b/c of the reasons I listed above is a clear lack of leadership.

Going 7-5 would mean winning five games in a row and probably finishing 3rd or 4th in the East. That is what will stick with Hamilton...that Fulmer was able to turn it around, it just took a half-season to find a qb and learn the offense.

Exactly. If we get to 7 wins, the teams that help us get there should feel shame.
