What idiot coaches voted for Gillespie?

I understand your argument...the problem with it is that Vandy has a national rep as being very "soft" away from home. We were not really stuck with that label last year.

Interesting. I remember hearing from a lot of people about how Tenn couldn't win on the road (not from the national media... just people).

how can you say that billy g. doesnt deserve the award? the way he turned the team around right before the sec started was amazing. and you act like pearl didnt have allstars on his team. your whole starting 5 was amazingly good. and the fact that you say coaches have a grudge against pearl for beating them is ridiculous. most coaches have class and respect coaches no matter what the outcome of their game is

it's coach of the year so the games before SEC play need to be in the discussion too. You don't get credit for exceeding expectations when you're the one who lowered them.

Of our 3 main "stars" only 1 was recruited by a big name school. The other 2 worked hard and got better (under Pearl).

Coaches are human so I doubt they are as objective as you would like to believe.

I personally like it better with Pearl cultivating the 'nobody like us' mentality.

A universal vote for Bruce would've blown that ship out of the water...

That is funny. On the Cat boards some are saying that Pearl didn't deserve the award.

So you are saying that LSU's new coach( I think his name is Pierre) deserves the award also because, if I recall correctly, they won like 4 or 5 out of their last 6 SEC games. This award is not about what you do part of the time. It is about the coaching job you did over the entire year. BCG shouldn't have been rewarded because he woke up half way through the season and figured out how to coach his team. To me, he failed miserably the first half of the season.

The truth, Jimmy, is that BCG didn't really have a bench full of McD AA. And when UK was losing to GarDner Webb, he had 2 of his main rotation players out due to injury.

Maybe you didn't notice, but San Diego isn't that bad. They just beat Gonzaga.

Maybe you didn't notice that coach Pearl lost to BCG once this season, too. With UT's loaded roster, Pearl BETTER do as well as he did this year. The award is based on coaching, really. Billy Clyde went 11-2 after starting 6-7, with 7 players in the rotation. That's pretty darn good.

I'm not taking away from anything your team did this season, but as far as coaching, I can see a case for them sharing the award.
Three seasons from a DEAD program, national prominence, #1 for the first time ever, first outright SEC title in 41 years, beat #1 on homecourt, most engaging coach in the country, #1 RPI, #1 SOS......are you SERIOUSLY comparing what CBG did with coach Pearl....can you, with a straight face say that CBP should share this award with CBG????? All of your cred is now GONE

Yes....they are amazingly good....for a walk-on, two VERY lowly recruited, a sophmore that missed half of the year for heart related issues, a homer that was mediumly recruited, a transfer that got abused at Arizona after being near death, and a masterfully managed and fortunately eligible transfer.....do you REALLY not see the reason why Pearl is, in our....and the nations eyes, FAR more deserving of COY???? My God man, what do you want him to do next season....bring peace to the middleast, cure AIDS and solve world hunger???

When i started this thread, one of my comments was that kentucky gets the breaks because of their history. Ridiculous (or lack thereof) logic from fans shows you the "We are the center of the basketball world" mentality. They really can't bring themselves to say, "Yes, this year your team and your coach did a better job than we did." This the the kind of fan that makes me root against KY no matter who they are playing.

Pearl should not have to share the award with Gillispie, who had a bunch of bad losses to bad teams, and will barely make the ncaas, and probably will lose in game 1. Bruce Pearl did the best coaching job by far in the SEC this year.

Is Billey a Naismith Award Finalist for coach of the year? There are good coaching jobs done I'll give Billey that, then there are the Best Billey did not even come close the shear stats RPI ect............. shows this to be true.

Listen, I think BCG is a very good basketball coach and time will tell if he becomes a great basketball coach.

However, I don't buy the co-coach of the year stuff. He started the season ranked and was picked to finish second in the East, based upon the talent at hand. He had some injuries earlies and suffered some embarrassing losses even considering the injuries. He got his players back and won what he was basically expected to win.

All the ink wasted about BCG outcoaching Pearl in our games this year is just silly. He employed the only style of play that gave him any prayer of winning. It, combined with some very ticky tack officiating (mind you, I'm not calling it poor officiating, just very tight which is a plus for UK), won for him in Lexington. It got him beat in Knoxville because our team has gotten better as a whole and the officials didn't give Bradley 237 FTs for his flopping.

Yes, BCG can flat out coach, but this season wasn't the shining example of that. His result were about as expected, except for the OOC stuff, which was, again, atrocious even considering the injuries.

BP does not need the coach of the year award because he will be receiving a SEC CHAMPIONSHIP RING to sport on his right hand soon! Much better than a plaque to hang in the office.
