Christmas list...

Eric Berry gets a pick six and breaks the NCAA record

Announces he will be staying for his Senior Year

Jonathan Crompton passes for over 245 yards

David Oku takes one to the house.

Montario Hardesty gets 170 yards and breaks Tennessee's all time rushing record

Last but not least, Tennessee beats Virginia Tech in a thrilling overtime win! :clapping:

Overtime? No. David Oku takes one to the house? No chance whatsoever versus Virginia Tech's special teams.

I forgot, do stats in bowl games now count as part of a player's whole regular season stats?

I was thinking about this during the last regular season game, because I'd love for EB to do just what you said.

I hope Berry gets the record. It just sucks how everyone thought it was in the bag before the season started and he hasn't had many opportunities to break it. And I'd take a boring game or blowout as long as the Vols are on the winning end.

What? Have you been paying attention to kickoff returns? Obviously not.

Oku has averaged 26.0 yards per kickoff return. Among "qualified" players (meaning they have at least one kickoff return per game played by the team) nationwide, that ranks him tied for 24th in the nation for average return yardage. However, of the 25 other players that are either tied with him or ranked ahead of him in average kick return yardage, 21 of those 25 players have a least one kickoff returned for a touchdown, and 10 of them have 2 or more kickoffs returned for touchdowns. Oku has zero. Color me unimpressed. For someone that was supposed to have game-changing speed and shiftiness, he has not shown it.

Hell, it would just be nice if David Oku showed signs of a pulse. He hasn't shown anything this year.

WOW! You're one of the first people I've heard say that. Oku has been very good as a freshman IMO. But I guess there has to be a grinch in every croud.

How many of those are true freshman playing on teams with sub-par ST?

Who cares? The point remains that this guy was advertised as having game-changing speed, quickness and shiftiness, and he has not shown any of the three.

SO what your are saying is that, despite the fact that he hasn't taken one to the house like the others, he is still ranked as highly as he has. That means that his average isn't skewed by one or two very big returns and that his average would be higher than some of the higher ranked returners if you took away the best and worst returns and made it a truer average. But of course, a better average doesn't impress you. You would be impressed with a guy that took one to the house and could barely reach the 20 on his next 9 returns.

O and VT's STs aren't what they once were. That comes from VT fans, not me. They have good returners, but other than that, they aren't overly impressive.

The ones about Berry, Hardesty and Crompton could happen.

Actually, I don't really think the Crompton thing can happen either. VT's strength seems to be their pass defense, especially when you look at their performance against winning (good) teams:

VT = #4
TN = #24

(source: cfbstats.com - 2009 National Team Leaders )

This (pass defense against good teams) seems to be the biggest differential between the teams, according to those stats.

So, Eric & Montario could pull it off, but I doubt we'll be very successful passing. In fact, we may *need* Montario to break a few (dozen?) records just to win this game.

Of course, stats lie, so....

How many good passing offenses have the Hokies faced this year though? I don't know of any ACC teams that had much success airing it out this year.

Took the words right out of my mouth... Oku has had a pretty good season and I am happy with his return skills. He will break one for a TD eventually.

and this is also bogus. if anything, oku has been one of the bright spots on special teams this year.
