I'm sure this has been discussed, but Considering our current situation we need to avoid grasping for a possible bad hire. I'm starting to think we just need to have an interim for next season. Fire Currie and hire Blackburn and let him hire his guy for 2019. We could make a new run at top candidates and be able to better sell the program with new leadership at the top. It's probably not popular with most, but I don't want 3-5 more years of a Dooley or Butch type hire. Flame away.

Other than a delay to make a change in who makes the new hire, what does an interim for another year get you other than gawd awful recruiting classes? The candidates expected to change? Nope. Same names but higher prices. Currie and the admin screwed the pooch on this one. UT has no wiggle room and few options. They need to get all the feedback they can get on the candidates available, over pay then pray we hit the mother load.

Really, Currie has one shot at keeping his job and regaining some trust from the fan base. He needs to live up to his promise of a big, expensive, explosive hire. He needs to over pay and bring a top coach to UT. Hottest name out there and still available right now is Frost. Currie needs to floor him with an offer he'd be nuts to say no to, sign him then pray it all works out. Having said that, I think Brohm might be our next coach. He'd be solid. We'd be looking at third in the east at best but we have few/no other options.

Free Kippy Brown!

Edit: Kippy and Jim Chaney are the only 2 unbeaten coaches that we have ever had as far as I know.

The fact that we are in this situation means we need to fire Currie. No way I'd let him have his fingerprints on this hire now.

I say take the best candidates that want the job and let them play a PS4 tournament of Grid Iron Champions: winner takes the job for $5mil per year or whatever...

I tend to agree. At this point go all in on Frost...overpay him...offer him 2 million more than Nebraska...if we can afford 300 million for stadium renovations than we can afford to overpay the coach. Timing is everything and it is what it is. That being said I doubt we are getting Frost. Brohm does seem to be the most realistic option.

Are you drunk?

Nope. Sick. But not drunk. You guys are so quick to crucify with one bad thing comes out that we don’t even have all the details about yet. He is not the coach..... now we go for another. Move on and stop complaining. Find something good and move on and stop with he bad all the dang time.

Ummmm Currie? Have you been asleep since Saturday?

Board of Trustees and that idiot Jimmy Haslam are the problem. Until the university stops being cheap and actually pursues a great football coach with lots of money, what we’ve had is what we’re gonna continue to get if they keep being cheap and letting loser Haslam call the shots behind closed doors.

We need to throw gruden money at Frost with the terms of bringing with him a top flight DC and a few top recruiters. If he can assemble a Staff like Kiffin did the he would be more worth paying $10 mil a year than an unproven in college gruden.

You do realize that Currie is as much to blame as haslam, right?

Fulmer as HC for 2-3 years, re stabilize the program, then get your guy.

Fulmer 1 year with Tee (who played under Fulmer) as OC being mentored and coach in waiting year 2

Could get on board with this understanding year 1 wouldn’t be high expectations

Fine OP, but you need a new offensive staff, system and philosophy. Use an interim, but you have to change that whole mess at the very least.
