1. Look at Mike Leach's offensive line set-up and look at ours. The heads of the guards in our offense are NOT at the center's waste.
2. Our guards are coming off the ball on runs WAY TOO SLOW.
3. Guards don't understand blocking assignments nor do they have a clue as to where late blitzes can come from. delayed blitzes are very successful vs us.
this is why our qbs keep getting hit and we cannot run between the tackles.

Defensively
1. we are playing a 4-3 with 3-4 personnel. this is why we cannot get any consistent pressure on the qb. the de bodies we have do not fit this system and the ones that do are not very good at holding their ground or pass rushing (kongbo, phillips, taylor, etc.)
2. the infatuation with playing buchanan is killing our secondary's confidence. he doesn't tackle well nor cover well. alonte taylor is who pruitt likes, but he is physically not ready
3. safeties don't make plays at all. where are they? you rarely see them near the ball or near the thrown too wrs. they are not relevant
4. too many guys standing flat-footed reading the backfield while the offense is moving. nobody's head is on a swivel so they dont see blocks or wrs coming in their areas.

Special Teams
1. gunners run down the field so freely on punt return. i see why we're always calling fair catch. we never block gunners
2. do the guys know who to block on kickoff return? when was the last time we had a decent return? butch jones era

Do you agree or disagree?

Where coaches earn their money is how their teams perform in the 1st half of the 1st quarter (game prep), last 2.5 mins of each half (playing against other team and clock) and the first half of the 3rd quarter (halftime adjustments). We've been outscored 41-3 in our 2 losses in that stretch (would be 55-3 but UF's first 2TDs last night happened just outside that window).

We're not playing 4-3. You can have 4 men on the line and still be in a 3-4. You have someone line up head on the center still, with two on one side of the center and one on the other. The 4th will be that Hybrid position we've been talking about, or an extra defensive tackle as a defensive end.

I honestly think we should run a conventional 4-3, and have Taylor go back to being a defensive end. I haven't seen anything out of him as a LB that has seemed like a good change.

We need about 14 on defense due to our guys just not being very good. They are getting whipped at the line and getting ran over or away from down the field. I hope Pruitt can see real talent and not the Butch stars or diamonds in the rough. It’s only gonna get worse for the next five weeks when we get to the better SEC teams.

Both

Agree that the Oline issues are a discipline/technique thing and something than can be COACHED up.

Slowness on both sides if the ball have more to do with new schemes than anything. Players are slow because their assignments arent instinctive yet. With proper coaching expect this to go away in time.

Special team returns may be the biggest embarrassment. Even when we dont attempt to pressure the punter in order to set up a return, we fail to set up a return.

Disagree

The blitz pick ups are dependant on the play called. Sometimes it should be an O lineman slide one step to slow a blitzer. Other times the RB should pick it up. However the QB also has to read the blitzes pre snap and be aware of them post snap. Without going back and watching the WVU and UF games ( I havent healed enough emotionally yet 😁) it appears to me JG should have been aware of most of them and been able to avoid the sack by dumping the ball off or chucking it out of bounds.

Most posters are going to have to accept the fact we only have a limited amount of talent on the field this year and you have to play who you think the best of those are. The cupboard was bare talent wise. Looks like RB's are our strength but that is negated by O Line play.

Better stand behind these kids that do play because the next fews weeks are going to try everyone. Players, coaches, and fans.

In his show today Pruitt pointed out the fact that we were slow getting of the ball (both lines). Backs always fall forward against us. He even made the commit (lightly) we lack strength and tackled badly . He was not very complimentary of the way the lines played. Whether he believed it or not, he thought there was good effort by some. Wonder what will become of those he did not see giving the effort he expects to see.

nobody is lined up over the center. go look for yourself. another thing that makes the 3-4 good is you never know which edge defender is rushing. with our defense, it's plain as day due to alignment.

go back and look. the delayed blitzes WORK. that's really the only time, but often our qbs get rocked because they have a clear path to our qbs. our rb is already passblocking. its usually a guard who is standing there blocking nobody. when u finally watch film, you'll see it

Disagree. We had huge coaching and playcalling last night.

The QB must be aware of the delayed blitz. As I said sometimes an O lineman should slide over and slow a blitzer but ultimately the QB has to be aware

I like VN so much. Some of you guys know the game and have a great eye for details.

Something's definitely wrong though.

The only glaring clear issue that I see is lack of SEC caliber players. We were awful last year and most of those awful players returned. Pruitt's first class was less than spectacular. 4-3, 3-4, schemes or alignment will make no difference until we start recruiting on a higher level.

(Note to Pruitt: get rid of that barber's smock and look like a coach)

I'm content that our center is not taking a dump on the field and that our guards are not putting their heads in it.

Different offensive philosophies dictate how deep/far off the line your guards and tackle line up. A pass first offense will typically be deeper than a balanced attack.

I mean, I don't have time to go into the entire 3-4 concept, but there are packages that have off-center concepts. Also some playbooks do have a 4-3 package even though they're predominately running 3-4. I'll also go back and look. It could be possible he is running a lot more 4-3 after seeing how bad the front 7 were in the 3-4 so far this year. We need a beefy nose tackle sometime soon.

which one u guys want the qbs to do? watch for blitzes or go thru progressions and find open wrs?

Pretty dang simple answer dude.

If JG wants to be successful he MUST do both. It's not an either or option. How this is a even a question is beyond my understanding.

check the wing-t and come back
02

I'm fairly well versed in a wing style offense and understand for pulling lineman purposes you line up as deep as possible.

However in a balanced attack if you give up that much ground at the line of scrimmage your ass ain't gonna run the ball very well.

Butch left Cinn but still recruited like he never left. You can recruit all the stars you want but they still have to fit your scheme while also being football players. We have some recruiting stars but not many football players. Unless we get behind our Coaches and give them a chance we will never get back. Anyone on here with an average football IQ should understand this. All this pointing fingers, crying like little b*****s want help the cause one bit. The bleeding will never stop unless we quit running a knife in everyone's back. The one thing we hadn't tried for the last 10 years is getting 100% behind our program and until we do its never getting back.
Some of the s**t I read on here has to be from fans from other Schools throwing salt in the wound and a bunch are falling for it.
I'm giving CJP his due time and backing him 100%.
