What hurts so much...

All year long...I look forward to the start of college football. All year to watch our boys play. This is the first year in my life I can think of where I’m not even excited anymore...my energy was drained by the performances I’ve seen and my inner child..that inner hope that maybe just maybe they’ll win some big games is gone. Butch Jones has killed the rest of the season for me. I want to be excited for next year...but I don’t think a new coach can have them ready to win the SEC or compete from what I’ve seen. Even IF his name is Gruden. I feel like what the team must feel like. Defeated. Broken. Butched. I’m not excited to watch the rest of this season. Honestly I just want it to be over with at this point. I’m ready for a new chapter and another 2-3 years of building for us to field a team that’s able to contend.

I understand where you're coming from and right there with you. I look forward to every football season to watch our Vols and this is the product they trounce out onto the field in year 5!! It's unacceptable and complete garbage to watch! What makes it worse? We have an incompetent coach that makes excuses for everything and shoves BS cliches down our throats. I could ramble on forever but the bottom line Jones needs to go. Sooner rather than later. Go Vols!

Sure hope your husband handles frustration with a lot less drama than you do.

Its the OC. The play calls we had arent there. The jet sweeps are gone. The WR screens are gone. The trick plays against our rivals are gone. These plays have been there and worked for us the past few years. They dont exist this year. The only difference is the OC.

Dormady =/= Dobbs

Didn't read all the posts in this, but if you can't see our roster is poised for someone to pull a Chizik with it you're crazy. (Win a NC by being a generally decent coach) With a competent coach and JG coming together in the coming years we could easily be a "surprise" with guys like Butuli, Taylor, Smith, Palmer, Callaway, Johnson, Warrior, Chandler, etc....

I'm there with ya OP. I love college football and pull for the VOLS. Wait 8 months for the season and within 3 weeks I see the writing on the wall. Lost to a terrible gator team that basically ended any hope for a trip to Atlanta.
Now, just think how the players feel after putting in 8 months of work, they get that Fl coached game and see Atlanta is probably a dream after 3 weeks. I think that is when CBJ lost this team!!

I feel you're pain.

I go to Nashville every year to see family for the holidays.

Have an uncle and an aunt that graduated Vandy.

I hope Butch doesn't ruin Christmas for me again this year.

We just need HOPE.
The only hope now is BJ is gone ASAP!

This season, I’ve actually started enjoying watching PAC12 football....it’s just fun to watch. Late night games. My wife works weekends right now, so she’s usually in bed early. So, My two sons and I sit up, have a nice little fire in our fire pit, we set our little 32 inch tailgate tv out side and roast hotdogs and make s’mores and watch offenses throw the ball around and see teams that are actually fun to watch.

That’s how my football season has turned out so far.

And Now I just narrow my eyes at my wife when she complains her team (Clemson) ONLY beat VT by two TDs...lol. and I’m over here hoping to even compete against Kentucky or Southern Miss at this point.

Thanks Botch!

Good grief. Win the SEC? UT is a perennial 8 or 9 win team. Competitive but not dominating. I don't see that changing for a variety of reasons.

Relax. Enjoy the games. They're fun and in the right company, a great way to spend a fall Saturday.

A new coach can have the Vols competitive, but with this UTAD, more than that is a stretch.

I agree, and have been telling my TV this for weeks during the game. You've got two of the fastest guys w/ talent on the team struggling to get touches...Byrd and Chandler. Instead, we line up in an offense with no motion to create mismatches or confusion on defense, and we run the option (hand off to RB), and everyone in the stadium and on TV knows it's coming. NO jet sweeps, no reverse/fake reverse, motion stuff that was wildly successful in past years...plays that don't necessarily require a mobile QB. Then, we're 3rd and 7, with an incomplete pass, punting on 3 and out, and D gets spent in first half...wash, rince, repeat.

The two biggest things for JG having success is OL play. This veteran group has to show up, and am baffled for the lack of execution from this group which was supposed to be THE strength of the team. Predicted top 3 OL is 14th this far, no doubt. The other factor is Scott. If Butch has any doubts about play calling, it's life boat time...is he going to allow junior high play calling to take him down, or over ride...if, in fact, either have a clue.

I’ve followed the Vols for over 50 years. Tennessee football is one primary reason fall is my favorite season. Am I disappointed in our performance this year? Damn right I am. Has it impacted my life? Absolutely not.

I’ve been disappointed many, many times over the past 50 years, but one thing has not, and will not, change: I’ll be watching the Vols every game, win or lose, as long as I can physically do so.

I stated after we won the Natty in 1998 that it was both the best and worst thing that could have happened. Now everyone’s expectations are through the roof every year, and unmet expectations equals disappointments.

A cool crisp fall day, a cold beer in my hand, surrounded by family and friends watching and cheering for my Vols, win or lose. Winning makes it better, but nothing will take away my joy and happiness from this experience. Nothing.

Bob in GA, good take.

That being said, specific to GA, or UGA, and UT's situation is that I feel we're allowing UGA to grow up. Regardless of who our coach is, we've missed the opportunity to take control of the East. And, while I believe UF is going to be mired in modest success for several years w/ Mac, UT and SC are also in no position to challenge at this point. If UGA becomes the Bama of the East, we're in for another decade of mediocrity (playing Bama and UGA every year), unless we react in kind.

Though everyone goes into GA to recruit, UGA is in unique opportunity because GT is the only other threat for in-state recruiting, and because of this is actually a better situation than Florida because of 3 majors and several mid majors who pull from the in-state pool. Though UGA is somewhat on same historic level as UT, their demographics set them up for potential domination.
