Not happy but I did think we needed a change. It might take a while to turn things around though.

I honestly hate to see the guy go. Partly because there are more important things in life than winning a football game. But if you are coaching only for those reasons, one of the elite programs in the country isn't the best place to do it. Fulmer getting fired is not about "what have you done more me lately," and frankly I find it funny that suddenly everyone on the radio, tv, and print has changed their tune from one day ago. There is understandably an emotional reaction, but to suddenly get all nostalgic and pretend like it is all about money and one bad season is a disingenuous reaction. Fans were not showing up at the games, apathy was setting in, and the relationship between the team and the fans was becoming hostile. The program has become divided.

I am just standing by my original conclusion that, for about 8 years, Tennessee teams and players are consistently not realizing their potential. If you want to go to a program where you can be satisfied with being ok, then go there. Tennessee and the SEC should be a place where you are pushed to the limits and tested. These are college-age men, but I don't see many olympic athletes much older, so Michael Phelps doesn't buy that argument either. If you want to compete at the highest level, it takes sacrifice and it involves pressure.

Fulmer is a bit of a throwback figure. People are nostalgic for the emotional appeal that he has, me included, but Tennessee has not been competitive or favored for even an SEC title in a number of years. It is not a "what have you done for me lately culture" that got Fulmer fired, it was a question of are you still performing at the highest level of the game in the nations most competitive conference. You don't get into the Olympics just because you won a gold 4 years ago.
