Dooley becomes more involved on Defense and we look like a new team? Lets say we win out, hold down all opponents offenses and keep scoring big?

After reading some of our resident insider's comments concerning buyouts and Hart taking some credit for our woes on D, it looks like Dooley is here for 2013.

If the above mentioned happens, do we pour some support for this team and Dooley? I think Dooley can get it done and may have this year without our trouble on D...beyond the switch to the 3-4 we have 6-8 guys starting right now that were either injured, in juco or hs last year!

As short back as this morning I was ready to move on but I'm feeling a little more forgiving this afternoon.

If he does then he needs to be fired for not doing this sooner. Do not think Dooley can help on defense anyways. I think the next coach of the Vols will be between Charlie Strong (good defense cord.at Florida) Dan Mullen, or Bobby Petrino. I wish it is Gruden but i do not think that will happen.

Agree. It very well may be too little, too late. Not that I don't want us to win out like the OP states, but I'll be shocked if we see marked improvement in the D the rest of the year. But hey, I don't mind being shocked.

Im starting to think Dooley will be here next year and our D staff will get a big overhaul. Before I get bashed this isn't my wish just opinion.

I guess it would be good, but it would beg the questions:

A) Why did it take so long
B) How much does Sunseri suck if Dooley can just walk in and fix things?

Having said all that, I give it about a .00001% of happening. Plus again, we're playing 3 weaker teams.

Well you fire Sal if nothing else. 9 games in and our defense continues to get worse. He should have been fired at half time on Saturday. If things suddenly get better on defense with Dooley's help (which I doubt), no question Sal should be fired.

I do believe that Troy has a better offense than the next 3 teams. So, I expect the will look better but only marginally. Mizzou has really struggled on offense, but I expect Mizzou and Vandy to have very good offensive production. Their defenses are much better than Troy's.

First, the Sunseri hire was a bad decision to begin with.
Second, Dooley's stepping in now is just a confirmation of it.
Third, Dooley won't be successful at making improvements this late in the season. He should have stepped in much sooner if he expected to impact our D before November.

If and buts were candy and nuts, what a Merry Christmas it would be! Wow! isn't it amazing how everyone has the answers "after the fact" your keen insight to what should have, could have, might have....is a pathetic attempt to claim some kind of "I told you so" attitude.......the dribble that some of you vomit on the other readers is just mind blowing.

Go Coach!!

I can appreciate the optimism, OP.. But it still blows my mind how much slack a lot of people continue to give Dooley. It's like the standard continues to get lower and lower and lower...

Where was this attention to the D back at the first part of the season. Where was the hands-on involvement then??

Against NC State, there were a number of really bad defensive breakdowns; Georgia State moved the ball surprisingly well and converted a number of long 3rd downs; And we gave up a lot of points to Akron in the 1st half (tied at halftime IIRC).

The offense has never had a problem scoring points - even going back to NC State(exception Bama). CDD's focus should have been the Defense from day one - especially considering the fact that that Sunseri had never been a coordinator at this level.

IMO this is just coachspeak from CDD saying that he's going to be "more inolved".. I see it as a last-ditch effort to try to "fix" something that is clearly broken beyond repair.

First the message from the defensive coaches was getting back to the fundamentals. Then it was simplifying schemes. Well, both of those strategies got us absolutely nowhere (see Troy)..

If we somehow turn things around and start shutting offenses down, i'll be the first one to eat crow. I just don't see it happening...

You don't fire a a newly hired coordinator implementing a new system after 4 games. Unless you want it to be exceedingly difficult to hire a new DC.

Really at this point why not wait it out and fire him after the season. What are you trying to gain? You think firing Sal right now will fill Neyland? It sure won't make the defense better.

Too little, too late. We MIGHT beat Mizzou, but Vandy will be another story. Sad, but true.

Means fire him quickly before the Doolites go crazy swearing he has us turned around before the impending disaster is about to hit.

I hear you, but being a FAN does not entitled us to do more than support and cheer......that's it. Donating, Ticket Buying is your only entitlemnet to see the games live. Unless your last name is Haslam.......forget about it.

Go Coach!!!

Have you seen our recruiting? We are getting ready to have possible one of the worst classes in UT history since the Bill Battle era. We are looking at unranked kids in Florida, and Chattnooga. We have kids looking to jump ship who are committed.

Bad coaches don't all of a sudden get good. Coaches that make bad decisions don't all of a sudden start making good decisions. Coaches that finish in the lower thrid of recruiting rankings in the SEC don't win divisional championships.

I am amazed daily at the amount of posters who are allowing and supporting our transformation from UT to UK in football. Wake up, please.

I don't think Dooley was empowered to do anything earlier. Sunseri was hired based on Hart's recommendation. Until Hart tells Dooley to do something, he wasn't going to act. Of course, Dooley will be blamed for not acting earlier even if through some miracle of miracles the Vols shut out the last 3 opponents. Those same hate-filled people would find a reason to complain if it was 13-1 with a loss in the NC game. I really don't care who the coach is next year. The vol fans have learned to whine and moan about anyone. They have become the legions of miserables.

This is assuming the D will be fixed with Dooley's help. Not going to happen in the secondary. We would give up a 15 yard pass with no contest on even the worst college receivers. If a team just runs on us, then maybe our D plays better, but I don't see it.

It would only prove that we're still treading water at the bottom. We STILL haven't beaten any quality teams for three straight years, we're STILL at the bottom of the SEC and have been for three straight years, and we STILL have a coach who finger-counts the # of players on the field on national TV, because his team still can't get it right after three straight years. Not even Joker or John L. do that.

The difference between 7-5 and 8-4 was huge, because 8-4 meant we beat one decent mid-pack SEC team. Just one. It wasn't a very high bar to hurdle, and it's counterproductive to keep moving it lower to try and find the level of incompetence.

You think we are in a mess now, let Stong or Mullen run the team. L'ville had to come back against Pitt, USF Cincy. Think before you speak.
