Wound up not being thin at DL at all....Solomon, Emerson, Blakeley, Butler, Middleton.

Garland, Bumphus, and Mincey contributed too. Still, I think we were fortunate that none of these guys went down for an extended period after we lost Gooden this year. Solomon played through injuries.

Took 4 years for Blakely to find his niche. If Williams is in the rotation at the end of his eligibility, this was all worth it.

Savion Williams is shown as a Junior on UT's website. I hope that is an error. If not, you pointed out he played too many games this year, so he'll be down to his last hurrah in 2020. Wishing him well, in any event.

He didn’t play in what would have been his freshman season of juco and then played the next season before transferring here. When he committed, I remember it was 3 to play 3
So he’ll have two seasons remaining. UT Sports is real bad about noting redshirts he’s a academic junior.

I'll be honest, when I watched his tape last recruiting cycle I was not impressed. He was overrated, had no explosion, and not much push. I was worried about our D-Line the most coming into the season considering we seemed highly dependent on him contributing. I hope he proves me wrong though and is able to take leaps forward in the offseason.

Yeah, I'm sure he would be an All American if he just didn't post those two tweets...

I kind of agree that the tweets were red flags...especially considering his tape wasn't even very impressive. If you want to post videos of yourself, put in the work and show out against SEC completion...then Vol-Nation will do all the posting for you..you just have to re-tweet.

Very stiff in the hips. Hard to play Dtackle when you can't move laterally at all. He was a take for Depth purpose. Let's see if Fitzgerald can work some magic with him.

This^ Lot in front of him! I think he’s in the rotation this coming season and there will be plenty of snaps to be had.

We will be just as deep next year but he would've had a full offseason to improve. He looks like one mean dude but football is a sport where just looking like Tarzan doesn't ensure you will not play like Jane. He just needs to continue to develop. He has the size. When thinking about our DL, what started out as a weakness started to develop around game 5. It will now be a strength going into 2020. I'm tickled at the good depth.

How do you know he will be fine? No difference in saying he is a bust versus he will be fine. Difference is that we don't know. You don't bring in JUCO's to sit the bench, see Middleton.
Let's not declare him a bust yet, please. A player should get a year of big time S&C and practice in the system. Let's see if there is progression.
Our boys are finally getting coached up across the board.

I think there's multiple issues here. First is the fact that many juco programs just don't have the necessary strength and conditioning staff and facilities to prepare a player like the Power 5 programs have, including nutritional support. Players are sometimes more like freshmen than juniors in strength and conditioning. That's why I prefer taking jucos who still have their redshirt year available.

Second, the player may have come into a level of competition that he just isn't prepared for physically or mentally. The SEC is the biggest of the big time. I am unfamiliar with the program Williams came from although they seem to have a solid program with several NJCAA All-Americans. But most of the jucos in the SEC tend to come from the Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas and California programs. Lackawanna seems to be more of a Big 10/ smaller Big 12 (West Virginia) feeder program. It's a private school with 1800 students and tuition is $13,000 a year.

Finally, Pruitt was desperate to just get some large bodies on the line and may have been forced to either play Williams before he was ready or take a player he wouldn't take today.

It happens every year that too much is reasonably expected of young/new players by the fans pre-season. He will be fine.
