What happened to Petera Wilson? The guy was an animal 4* recruit for whom we were battling with Ole Miss and OSU. Now he's a middling 3* (247; Rivals still has him at 5.9) and Chrystal Ballers have him going to Memphis?! Man, he must have really blown up in the wrong direction at a camp or two. I read where he can hit but is not so great in space. Do we still want him?

He fell off the orange radar for sure. We have Bates, Bryant, Mouhon & Weatherd at the LB spot coming in next year. It could be his services aren't needed.

I think I read somewhere that the best 40 he posted at any camp this summer was like a 4.88 or something. Now I don't think a 40 yard dash is the end all be all for judging a player but that is slooooow for an SEC linebacker.

Nothing happened to him.... It was just a bad evaluation from the beginning from the sites.

He's kinda in the same boat as Greg Miclisse. Carries a lot of weight, lacks quickness, and isn't able to move to DE because of his height.

Just think.... This guy was considered a top 10 LB in the country and was basically heading to LSU. Now Memphis is keeping him close to home.

The Rivals analysts were really high on him after a couple of the camps. It may in fact be that the top schools recruiting him filled their boards quicker than anticipated and/or are saving their final spot(s) for "elite" talent, like we may be doing with Clifton Garrett. He may not be willing to wait that long to commit, so that could play a part. I feel this is probably the case with Tennessee, as he was being heavily recruited just over a month ago. As for the issue of speed, well I don't think the coaches just now learned that he doesn't run a laser timed 4.7 so that leads me to believe it's an issue of space and other elite prospects taking priority. But who knows. That 4.8 speed doesn't look nearly as bad on the field as it does on paper, especially if he has good coverage skills and quick recovery speed. And if I recall correctly, 1st round draft pick Jarvis Jones of UGA ran something like a 4.9 at the combine.

Remember Pat Martin who came in as a 4* DB but was really not that good. At least this staff can evaluate better than the last regime.

There are rules, and then there are exceptions to those rules.

B. Spikes made up for his lack of natural speed in many other ways.

Exactly. If you're gonna be that slow as an SEC linebacker, you better be very good to elite in the other areas.

I think that's being made a bigger deal than it should be. About a third of the ILBs at this years combine ran a 4.8 or worse. And Wilson is still in HS and will probably get faster in a college S&C program. Running a 4.8 doesn't mean he can't play middle linebacker if he has good reaction time and reads plays well.

I just said that I don't think a 40 is soley what you judge a player by. He must not be good enough at the other things for his stock to drop like this.

I highly doubt UT, LSU or OM would take his commitment right now even though they were tripping over themselves 3 months ago to land Wilson.

It's like in auctions, we were bidding him up, trying to get turdbin meyer wiener to waste an OSU scholly on him.

Yeah I know you weren't saying that about his 40. I was just saying too much is being made out of it in general. Wasn't directed towards you.
