What happened to our unique orange?

We used to have a unique shade of orange. Is it safe to say it changed with Nike? Just seeks like now we look like all the other teams that wear orange.
Saves Nike money. Keep everything as much the same as possible. And everything Nike looks the same anyway, regardless of colors.

And yes, we do have a patented shade of orange.

“University Of Tennessee Orange / #f77f00 Hex Color Code. The color university of tennessee orange with hexadecimal color code #f77f00 is a shade of brown. In the RGB color model #f77f00 is comprised of 96.86% red, 49.8% green and 0% blue.”
I did not calculate those %s; it’s a copy and paste.

And another one.

Using Tennessee Orange. Orange is the most important color in our palette; it is critical that we get it right. The official Tennessee Orange is PMS 151.

That one is interesting nomenclature too.

Are you looking at an actual product or a picture on a computer monitor? Hard to believe -- as much as people seem to have had a falling out with Nike -- that a company with their history would shell out a bunch of money to a school like UT only to do a crap job on their unique color. It's not rocket science to get the right color. Or that the athletic department wouldn't call them on it. The UT brand police are tough.

Of course, Nike "Quality Control" is a 6 year old girl making 15 cents an hour in Indonesia.....

I thought our shade of Tennessee Orange was #FF8200.

Edit: it is. https://brand.utk.edu/standards/colors/

Also, you left off the rest of the statement from the UT site: However, almost all university communications are printed using the four-color (CMYK) process, which cannot accurately reproduce PMS 151. Therefore, you should use the 0-50-100-0 CMYK breakdown when printing. If a printer requests a PMS color to guarantee a match for a four-color print job, you should specify PMS 144, not 151.

FYI PMS 244 is #ED8B00

Around 2008 Michigan went from Nike to Adidas. One problem, Nike "owned" Michigan's Maze color. So Adidas' version of Yellow was much brighter than the traditional Maze. Since moving back to Nike, Michigan's Maze is much closer to the original...a bit more dull.

The OP may be on to something with Nike...although I think the color looks pretty good. I know the hue/shine changes with fabrics, stickers, etc. That's the hardest thing to match. One solution, recruit very fast players then all we see is a blur!

Whatever it is , everybody needs to get on the same page. Every time I see a picture or video of crowd at a game or even the players and coaches the clothes or uniforms are always 2 or 3 different shades of orange. Only team I ever see that has that problem.

I remember when LSU's "yellow" got to looking alot like TN.

I like the top and bottom colors listed above. Get too much more red in there, and we tilt towards Clemson...too much yellow, and looks too "pumpkin-esque"

Prime example is this picture. The girl in the middle has the checker board outfit with a deeper orange while the other fans have shirts with a more yellow orange on and the left shoulder of the girl behind her is a deeper orange. I see this on every TV broadcast. Always looks a little strange. I always assume people froms other schools that see that say to themselves" those damned hillbillies can't even get their colors to match", especially the fans of teams that lose to us. Lol

I really like the Clemson Orange. And I favor ours when it's more of the VN header. It's not too dark and ugly like a pumpkin and not too yellow
