What happened to Leach? Why is it so silent?

He will not be a candidate. Currie went rogue with Leach against the advice of Davenport which led to yesterday.

You should think of Leach as having never been on the table.

I'm not sure that 'rogue' bit is totally true. Wasn't Leach's name being kicked around before Currie headed west?

I'm more of the belief it took a day or so for the gears of the trustees, boosters, and Davenport to mesh then she could take action.

When are the Grumors going to start up again? Watch for a JG sighting in Knoxville this weekend.

I could see Fulmer warming up to Brohm. I could also see a DC like Venables, Steele or Pruitt. Other than that, Maybe a mid-major coach like ArkSt or Troy coach.

or Justin Wilcox.

Hiring Tee right now will be a disaster. Poor guy has been set up to fail from the beginning.

If he has a disastrous season, the fan base will turn on him. I would hate to see another son of Tennessee get pushed out of the program because he had a steaming pile of **** plopped in his lap and he couldn’t weave it into gold. Love the guy, but bringing him in right now wouldn’t be the right thing to do. Just my opinion.

If Fulmer would think outside of the box for this hire HE probably would go for these coaches:
1. Shaw (will not come)
2. Petersen (enough money might get him interested)
3. Frost (probably interested in Nebraska, but we need to pursue him with the right contract)
4. Miles (offensive imagination is a concern, but that was Fulmer's weakness as well)
5. Tee (Fulmer could mentor him)
* Fulmer will NOT be interested in Kiffin, Leach, or Gruden. JMHO

One has to think that Sexton would offer up Kiffin when Phil calls him asking for coaching contacts.

Will be very disappointed if Fulmer doesn't interview Kiffin at the minimum.

It’s funny, we seem to me to me a bunch of blind squirrels who finally found our nut with the dread pirate leach, only to toss it aside for an ancient great pumpkin. Only one problem, squirrels don’t eat pumpkins...

Post of the year!!!!!!!

The most apropos and deep meaning in a post I have ever seen.

I fear it is unfortunately true in this case.

We got what we wanted, but what we needed was Leach. Why does Fulmer not want Leach?

If Tee and consequently Fulmer go south - do we then become Vandy?

This is why Tee is his choice. He likes the guy, but with a rookie HC then Fulmer will have many many “input” opportunities.

That's why I don't have confidence a good choice will be made. Although Fulmer will not be THE coach he will insist on his strategies which will doom the offense.

I was all up on Leach. But as other says, him with Fulmer seems like oil and water. Fulmer preferred Doeren to him. I wish we could get back in with Brohm, but I can see that happening either. I think he is waiting on Steele. Sad to say, but dream hires at this point, best we can hope for is Sumlin or Morris.

If Sumlin or Morris is hired you're not much better off than Butch.

While Leach would be fun to watch he would lock horns day one with the Admin/boosters and probably the reporters.

I can see it now, calling Bev a fat little girl :)

And what's wrong with that you say? She needs to go too. Of course she's gained "great insight" over the 9 months she's been on the job and NOW knows how much the fan-base loves Tennessee. She had no clue before this fiasco blew up in her face. Crisis management at it's worst.

Fulmer blew it up

Getting a good coach that the fan base could get behind is a fireable offense

Don't forget, AGAIN! He's already been fired once from this university. Yep, we wouldn't want to hire anyone except "yes" men aka "losers". But, hey, they're going to win championships (like Life).

He was as absolutely 100% offered. But tell us old wise one it never happened. Quit your lying bud

I'm afraid that Fulmer will ignore Leach and go with a former Vol that either:

1. Has a sucky record as a head coach and is probably too old anyway (Steele)
2. Is too old and doesn't really want to be here but might feel pressure to com back anyway (Cutcliff)
3. Is a very promising young coach but has nowhere near enough experience to lead a program like Tennessee especially considering it needs to be lead out of the turmoil it's currently in (Tee Martin)

Let's hope that's not the case. Anyone can look at Alabama as a case study. Once they got over the notion that their head coach had to had some tie to Bear Bryant, they got Saban. The rest is history. Most of the time the best person for a job is not in the "family."

You hit the nail squarely on the head. Bama had a coaching carousel until they got smart & hired Saban. Fulmer will not be able to get over this because he still wants to call the shots and when all goes to h_ll he can just blame it on the coach.

You're so right! Setting up Tee to fail like this is not fair to him or the fan base. I sure don't want to see him go down in flames.

It's because those coaches have balls and wouldn't let Fulmer ruin the program.
