What happened?? (Speculation encouraged)

What happened is opposing coaches saw this defense on tape and started salivating. You don’t have to have a run game against us. You can throw the ball 90% of the time and still smoke us. As bad as we played offensively 38 should beat South Carolina any Saturday. Defensive coaching changes needs to be made or we will always be stuck in mediocrity.

I'm concerned about next year. Truly am. Going to be a hugh drop off on offense in the oline and wr positions. Hoping milton isn't a huge drop-off but a new qb. Not good

To be fair after tonight not sure Martinez or banks shld vmbe retained.
Oh I'm not saying that they should, I was saying I'm one of the ones that was hoping for a rematch with Georgia, but haven't called for anyone to be fired. We definitely need a change on defense.

Rumor has it that the USC coaches had a copy of Banks’ playbook on the sidelines.

No pressure whatsoever

Very soft zone

No adjustments even after it failed and failed and failed……..none.

Freakin blitz, run the house it CAN’T hurt you if their scoring most every time anyway.

This is what i didnt and dont understand.
Blitzing wasn't going to.cause any damage that wasnt being done. I would.love to have a conversation with a coaching staff memeber that could explain the thought process.

Are we just to stubborn to.walk back from a failed.game.plan?

We only had a true blitz about 2 times tonight. We believed it was the best strategy to play soft zone all night long, in spite of the fact we were getting torched over and over. We depend too much on offense to hide our bad defense, and that got shut down like GA did to us. We haD DB’s that were more interested in talking smack that making plays. Totally undisciplined defense. That’s what happened.
Worst game mismanagement by a defense ever. Almost looked intentional.

His hire is the most baffling to me and it’s not hindsight. There was no connection there to begin with and he wasn’t a full time DC with play-calling duties. I genuinely wonder what made Heup say that’s who I’m going after.
Didn’t it take him forever to get Banks because no one wanted the job with UT under investigation.

At least that’s what I thought I remembered.

Its not rocket science. It’s a gimmick offense that teams are figuring out (the offense revolves around about 6 plays) and the defense is one of the worst in CFB.

What more needs to be said?

Away games show how well a team can prepare, and this season showed that Heupel and Staff cannot prepare for big games on the road. Beating Pitt was good, but that wasn't a hostile environment by any means.....
Or a very good team.
Or a team with their starting qb the whole game.
Or a team with a healthy backup qb.

Bad weather? That’s why we lost two games this year.
The refs and sec were against us too, they want Bama in a better bowl.
Jeremy Pruitt ruined this season. Heup can’t be expected win with any players that ever spoke to Jeremy Pruitt.

Once your defense let their crowd get into it , UT was in for a long night. Hard to win an SEC game, especially on the road, at night. Willie Martinez. Spencer Rattler, strike a Heisman, son. Hooker overthrowing multiple receivers. No separation by said recievers. Rat Poison. Feeling disrespected because the committee had you #5. FOMO. Watching TCU game in the pregame locker room.

What happened? Program got exposed. Beamer has an objectively better win vs any of our wins and it’s possible he and Heupel aren’t that different in talent and ability.

Huh? blowing out LSU on the road and beating Bama at home are way better wins.

Team speed in the secondary has to improve a lot. Our safeties are so slowwww. That’s fine in run defense but in the secondary their recovery speed is awful.

Were they ranked top five and were we unranked? We’re either of those losses the worst defensive performance since 1893. I guess Bama comes closest since it was the most points since Sewanee in 1910, but it was still a 3 vs 5 matchup at the time.

AKA like the purdue game last season. No adjustments from back four and no pressure. Definitely place this loss on defensive side. If there is some issues going on they need to be nipped and don't be surprised if Tenn loses next week if they can't get things together.
