This report about the U of Miami's offer to Gruden may be interesting, as far as what TN will need to offer:

"These were reportedly Jon Gruden’s contract demands when he met with Miami AD Kirby Hocutt. ”1. A $3.4 million salary 2. A $1 million salary for his brother, Jay, who would be the offensive coordinator 3. A guarantee that if certain winning standards were met Jay would become his successor 4. A private plane at his disposal for recruiting or anything else he wanted.” Number three was the problem."

I have no idea if that's true or not, but if I were the hottest name in coaching I'd try to bring little brother along for the ride. Can't say as I blame him...

It would be amazing to have john gruden first then his little brother. He's been successful as a offensive coordinator every where he's been.

A friend of mine that is a Miami fan has told me the story about little bro being HCIW before. Al Golden did benefit from that jet though.

I would agree to every single one of those on the spot. Jay is not joke. He will be a head coach in the NFL soon at the rate he is going.

He also wanted 1.2 million for his dad to be official ball boy and 1.1 million for his mom to be team mom. You Grudenites kill me.

Naming your successor in your opening contract is extreme. Come on guys, that is not very reasonable.

I agree but at least there are certain expectations that need to be met first. However, asking for that would concern me as an AD that his intent would be to jump back the NFL at the first opportunity.

All depends on what the "winning standards" are. If he wants Jay hired if TN wins 60% of his games, I don't like the third demand. If the number is 75% or more, it's fine.

I think Jay was Arena league head coach and successful one for a while if I recall. I think he was player coach too. Not saying it means he would be good college head coach but he does have some diverse experience in the game

They can't afford a private jet when only 1,000 fans attend each home game?

Makes me wonder why he's passed up the NFL offers he's had. I'm not so sure he wants to go that route.

Let's try to be a bit more positive if that happens.

After 3 very successful years, CJG has decided to return to the NFL. He leaves behind a stockpile of talent, and high profile coaches are clamoring to come to Knoxville to coach that talent and compete for a National Championship.

If certain winning standards are met....so therefore...."If we win X amount, then when I leave, Jay is head coach." Honestly, I don't see the bad in that. If we're that good already, then if our head coach leaves, we still have a coach. No search. We can at least guarantee recruits that they will be playing for a Gruden. Jay is a good coach as well. I see no harm in that.

I would love to have Gruden and Gruden as HC and OC. Can you imagine the way that big brother would lay into little bro if he messed up?

If this is true, it doesn't seem like Gruden is the type to nickel and dime someone. These seem VERY reasonable. I'd still be willing to pay him 5 mil though.
