I've loosely followed recruiting the past 5 years or so and have never seen as big of a surge as what has happened the past 2-3 days, esp given our doom and gloom attitude earlier this week... Anyways, this surge has convinced me 1 of 2 things: 1) there really is such things as silent commits this early in the recruiting season, 2) dooley found out the ncaa penalties, news was good, and he quickly quelled any fears recruits may have had.
I'm sure there are more options, and I'm eager to hear everyone's thoughts bc this has been a quicker mood swing than orgeron's caffeine crash. Go vols!

I think nothing fundamental has changed since last week and that it's still July. I do think that our likely fewer number for this year's class might have been a factor. The staff may have been more selective with offers because of that.

Dooley and staff are methodical and patient and that leads to slower developments on the recruiting front that other approaches might. Remains to be seen how it'll all work out, but I'm a big fan of how Dooley does business.

He inherited an unstable mess of things and the first thing you do is that situation is to stabilize the program and work to make improvements while you are consciously managing the risks.

I don't think that Dooley is leaking unofficial NCAA news to 18 year olds - one of them would slip up and tell it, I think. Also don't think that the pending results have had any significant affect on things up until now.

I know Dooley said that 'long investigations are killing recruiting', but he was speaking in a general sense, and not about UT in particular. Likely that UT will lose a scholarship or two, be able to host for a few less official visits, and be on probation a year or two. I can't see any of that scaring off a guy that thinks UT is for him. Now, OTOH, I can see a guy giving North Carolina the cold shoulder, for instance. They're liable to get hammered.

Edit: I do agree that the camps could have accelerated things.

Easy answer. James Franklin has been at Media Days, so we were able to use his absence to get some recruits.:)

He may not be leaking the exact news, but he may have heard something and has reason to downplay it.

8 Commits and I think we are now back on pace. I know many look and say that 7 of them are 3* but right now Alabama has 14 commits and 9 of them are 3*. So if Dooley can close strong then we could be top 15 by season end.

Dooley is rebuilding a program back to prominence the right way. Look at his recruits. All are fairly intelligent and none come in with a history of problems or questionable behavior. He is methodical about the players he chooses. Dooley is planning on coaching here for a long time, that is why is is careful about the players he chooses and recruits. I think he is honest with recruits and does not want their committment unless they are 100% Vol. I think he will bring the Vols a championship soon.

All of our recruits are .1 pts away from being a 4 star... haha not saying that all of them will be 4 stars, but some of them certainly will.

These guys are good but im ready to see some 4 or maybe even 5 star guys start comitting.

Some of our recent 3-star commits could get a bump to 4-star, particularly the 5.7 guys on Rivals.

We'll get our share of the 4-stars. Like I always say, I want at least ten of them. That's an easy top 10 to 15 class. And any 5-star guys are jet fuel.

CDD is so smart...rather than competing with Alabama in Alabama, Georgia in Georgia and Florida in Florida ... he is going to Ohio and taking all the OSU recruits and soon UT will be OSU south running away with the SECC again...its scary how good the Vols will be next year when they make their NC run...

OH MY what a team CDD is building... our 6-6 season this year is looking more like 9-3 and if we beat FL in the swamp we could run the table...who is out there that can really stay on the same field with Tyler Bray and the juggernaut offense and JJ and the stud defense...I can't wait can you?

I've learned not to count on the bumps even at 5.7. Peterman will definitely get a 4th star in the upcoming evals, but I would caution anyone thinking that our 5.7s will get a 4th star after committing. I really get a kick out of posters saying a kid is going to "blow up" in his senior year.

I always get disappointed when there are few or no bumps, purely because of all the speculation on this board. Nice post. :hi:

Winner! Just though I would trumpet this post. I was nervous about Dooley and recruiting against the big boys. I'd say he is holding his own rather nicely. VFL,B!

He did pretty well against the "big boys" at LSU. Not really sure why you would be initially nervous.
