What exactly is Pruitt's O' Philosophy?

I don't think he has one or it would be close to whatever he used in HS. One thing is for sure the sooner he can get an OC with a playbook in here the better off UT is gonna be. I get the bad feeling that this matter is gonna slow any progress we are trying to make.

The coaches haven't done anything related to X's and O's since the season ended. They have been 100% focused on recruiting. If the new guy was here, he wouldn't have done a whole lot football related anyway. Once the class is signed, they'll go back to football and need an OC. Hopefully, he's in place soon and can be a part of that.

If you ever watched his shows, listen to his press conferences, and interviews he mentions time after time on what he wants done. Controlling the clock on a power running game, short passes, and stretching the field with a verticals passing game. He wants 3 to 5 yards on hand offs, he wants to gain at least 7 to 10 yards on the short passing, and if he can beat you down the field on long passes then fine. In all 12 of his shows, he repeatedly would tell you what he wanted time after time. His pet peeve on running the football is making the 1st guy miss, and then picking up extra yards. Another pet peeve of his is, is that he wants you to fall forward when going down, not backwards. He wants the offensive line to push the pile as the running back is falling forward. If you remember the West Virginia game, we had a drive to last 8 to 9 minutes down the field, then we scored, controlling the clock. This is what he really wants.
With this said why did he go with Helton in the first place? And what OCs mentioned in the last three weeks match his philosophy? One?

Seems like he said his offense would be multiple. After seeing the numerous formations used, it makes sense.

This 1st year he appeared to want to run the ball to set up the passing game.

I hope that he doesn’t want to play that slow grinding football. It may be effective if you have the size, depth, and the athletes... but IMO opinion you struggle against high powered offenses and diciplined defenses following that model unless you have them beat with individual match-ups.

Well, I think if you look at the size of the linemen he has recruited , regardless of the stars , you will have your answer. Regardless of his passing philosophy , he wants to run the ball when he wants to run the ball.

There was a interview with Helton recently that also confirms this. Helton also said in so many words , that CJP elected to build the foundation of his team and philosophies , rather than go after solutions for immediate wins. He basically ran pro sets with smaller guys that were recruited to screen block for a hybrid spread . Those guys weren't very good at their native offense , and they were definitely not good at the pro style.

Running when he wants to run does not necessarily mean slow grind it out football....but it does mean that you have the ability to if needed. The modern pro style of offense is ...everything. Max protect power run , four wide , hurry up , grind out , multi formations, pass heavy , run heavy ….he has to get the croots for this to work , but work or not it is what he is doing

Good point. The good teams can choose to run the ball to control the game clock, but tend to have a verical threat as well. I like the spread offense for flare and big plays, but I cant argue with wanting it all. I suppose that if he wants to get us there, then the bread and butter must be the run game. It may make for some less than eventful games in the beginning, but hopefully it leads to fun to watch football. But with all that said, I guess winning football is fun football. I have some faith in hi. He hasn’t had long to prove much, but I like the way that he takes a workman like approach and isn’t afraid to do what he thinks will work regardless of the popularity of the decision. Everyone gets on board when the W’s start rolling in I guess.
