So, what is the AD responsible for specifically?

Hire/fire all mens coaches?

Keeping the program within the NCAA's regulations?

Fund Raising?

I ask b/c commenting the hiring of a coach seems pretty easy to do. We all have a basic understanding of what he does, but can't help but think their is more to an AD than just these few things. I assume its a completely different bird.

If there is more to it than the 3 suggested above then we would want to find people who have displayed excellence in those areas too. So does anyone know what else the AD does?

hammy rasied funds then went thru craigs list and found coaches to hire then spent most of his time trying on elevator shoes.

Fund raising is priority number one. It's really the only thing that matters. Just get money, baby.

I usually don't trust wikipedia (but for some reason I do forums. lol)

I just assumed their was something more to the UT AD job than what was common knowledge. Guess it is as simple as it sounds.

Or once again VN is mass commenting on something the average fan knows NOTHING
about.

You are correct, the Pocono race is gonna be awesome.

One key aspect of Hammy's job was to go head-to-head with the coaches lawyers to negotiate buyout clauses.

You missed PR, which was Hammy's weakest of weak points. Also plays a big role in scheduling; I'm not sure how that'd divided between the coach and AD.

PR was one of his weakest points but is also unnecessary. A great AD hire would be wise to tell Hyams to pound sand and give the Knoxville media access like Dooley gives to practices.

The job is about maintaining profitabilty with enough fundraising to have the best facilities and hire coaches who win without breaking the rules.

Hamilton was great at parts but Pearls lying was his undoing

this isn't reasonable imo. promotion is part of an ad's job, which is or blends into the public relations field.

Name the current AD at South Carolina....what about LSU? Truth is that sometimes guys like Broyles or Haden are in the news but it is usually for bad reasons. Foley is admired for the wins but according to guys on here is a failure because of all the guys arrested under his watch.

We do not need an AD who does lots of interviews and has an active twitter.

Just because we can't name the AD doesn't mean he's bad at PR, and good PR is very important to the AD and athletic department.

Being the AD is a lot like being an CEO. If a CEO was terrible at managing the public relations of his or her company, he or she would be fired, and you'd agree that it was the right business decision to make.

Just because you were a Hamilton supporter doesn't mean you have to make excuses to cover up his weak points. I supported Hamilton to an extent as well, but agreed with most that we needed change. He's gone. Get over it.

Also, anyone but Fulmer, please.
