I have read or listened to everything I could lay my hands and eyes and ears on, and not ONE person understands what the VOL coaches were trying to accomplish in the 4'th quarter. Not ONE.The only thing I can get from all of the commentators(and some of them have big time college ball experience) is that Coach Jones gets afraid to COACH and simply tries to hang on in the face of a desperate opponent who is fighting to WIN. Has he tried to explain what his PLAN was?

No Butch hasn't really explained what happened late in the 4th. But I will say this. Butch has a history of giving up leads in games and conducting ingame malpractice. When he as the head coach at Central Michigan he gave up a 14 point lead to Tupelo. When he was the head coach at Cincinnati he had a game against Rutgers where that he lost because of in games decisions which caused Rutgers to kick the game winning field goal. Nothing has changed with Butch.

I really hate to see any team run up the score on another. But, in our current state, when you have your foot on the throat of your opponent, keep it there.

We can only.hope that the unbelievable criticism he is.getting now that he's at a big boy school in bigboy conference is his wake up call.

He has a long history of trying to get ultra conservative and hoping the clock will run out. But you'll lose a lot more games than you'll win that way. You need to keep doing what Gabe you the lead to begin with.

We know that a two TD lead is not enough. Maybe we should try a three TD lead.

Based on what I've seen in the OK and FL game, I am afraid a 3 TD lead would not be enough. Butch's nads must shrink up like Sunmaid raisins late in the 4th qtr when he has a lead. ITS SO FRUSTRATING...AHHHHHHHHH!! :furious3:

So you're saying we should go all Oregon on them and try and score like 70+ points a game. :)

I can just say that Michigan fans warned us about Mike DeBord.

The Debord hire was a mistake. It needs to be fixed along with the Oline coach.

Anything less is window dressing.

This can't be "our" Butch, can it?

I long for the days of 49-14 yawners with our WR's lighting up someone's secondary. Did not understand what we had at the time. I didn't feel good about the WC game until about halfway through the 4th quarter.

You know - I am not a coach, but I feel kinda smart, been watching football 45 years! It is traditionally higher odds to win by playing conservative when you have a lead. How many times have you watched NFL teams with more than 7 point leads give a touchdown run the clock down and punt and then try to hang on! Very very frequently! Drives me crazy! But there must be better odds to holding on than taking chances! Happened to Peyton at least 4 or 5 times by himself. And he looked like he couldn't close the deal. But it is not rediculous no brainer strategy as implied for last couple of days!
