I will never say a negative word about Brett Farve. He is the man in my eyes and have great respect for him. Last night I was talking football with a guy and I said Peyton is the best QB playing right now. He said no I was wrong and it was Brett. I said, I mean as of now and not career wise Peyton is the better QB. He said I know nothing about football. Am I wrong here , I think not. Thoughts?

I think you've come a long since your first day on VN. I'd even agree with you for the right now.

today, peyton is better. cant' even go there about careers.......yet. Favre is hands down one of hte top 3-5 qbs of all time, of that there is little doubt.

will peyton enter that discussion......time will tell.

that conversation, sans Tom Brady, makes no sense to me.

If you gotta go out and win one ballgame, who's the guy? For my money, and I'm a Peyton fan, it's Brady.

i'm under the impression it's a contest between manning and favre. It's not who is the best right now all encompassing, it's who is better, manning or favre. There is no reason you can't have that argument. and if you think Manning is better than Brady, and the other guy thinks Favre is better than Brady, no need to bring him up then.

If you wanted to, you could even argue who's better, Cleo Lemon or Brian Griese without having to mention Brady's name. I just don't know why you'd need to compare those two, unless you're fantasy football team allows you to start 4 qbs and you're stuck on making a selection for the 4th guy.

PM is better at reading a D and changing the play for the better thats why I give him the win.

I love to watch both of them play but IMO Peyton has the edge simply because he doesn't make the crazy mistakes Favre makes. Favre loves to have his passes caught and sometimes I think it doesn't matter to him who catches them. RE: the night game with the Bears last month.

There's no doubt in my mind that Peyton will ultimately surpass Favre in the overall qb excellence argument. Brady is an excellent qb as well but is playing with far superior teamates. When the Patriots salary cap goes overboard and their talent level comes back to the pack look for Brady's production to fall off.

while I certainly appreciate the debate lesson, if you'd read, FV said the debate was about the best QB playing right now. FV's horse was Manning and the other guy said Favre. I said that debate should include Brady.

as i said, if person A. believes Favre and person B. believes Manning, Brady's name doesn't have to come up. It can still can make sense.

if we're talking about the best QB's in the game today, and we were, then his name has to come up. He wrote the note asking for our opinions regarding the debate. I gave one. You wrote back with some mathematical formula trying to excuse your oversight and correct me. That makes no sense.

no.. once again you don't know how to read and only you can be right. if you knew anything about me, you would know that I too think Brady is the best qb in the game right now. But, as you've mentioned before you don't care enough to learn about anything else, you just put out your opinion and it's right regardless. I was pointing out that FV made a good point. Brady doesn't have to be mentioned for it to make sense. It was their opinions. Obviously, FV knows something about football to choose manning. that or he's just a tennessee homer.

I don't care to know anything about you. I'm not trying to be right. I simply said that the debate about best QB makes no sense to me without Brady in it and gave reason. Right or wrong, I'm saying it makes no sense to me to have the debate without him. You need not agree. They gave their opinions and FV asked for others. I gave mine. Doesn't make it right.

As to my ability to read: had I missed the opening point by failing to read it, I'd hardly be implying someone else can't read.

In the mid/late 90's when they were dominant, their main receiver I forget his name said that he didn't have a single finger that Brett hadn't dislocated. Ouch!

I'm a Packer Backer from the Don Majikowski days when i was a kid. Peyton is no Brett, and Brett is no Peyton.

I'll use this comparison. Peyton is the 1980 Soviet Red Army Hockey team, Brett is the USA. Peyton is better across the board, in all the skill categories, statistically and otherwise. Brett lacks those, but his daring, and panache, allows him to pull things out of his ass.

Was the Soviet team better in 1980? Absolutely. But they lost a game they would probably win 19 times out of 20 because of the "cowboy" mentality of the US squad, playing footloose and fancy free, as opposed to the systematic excellence shown by the Red Army teams. Brett is a HOF'er, as is Peyton. But no doubt, Peyton is the better QB, overall.

I think Favre threw the best pass I ever seen back in 2000 or 2001 against the Jaguars on a Monday Night.

Its really hard to say who is the best between the two & you got to put Brady in the mix too. It really comes down to personal preference & since Manning brutalized Alabama he gets my vote

Very well thought out comparison IMO. I am a big fan of both Favre and P Manning. The way I see it, Peyton is the cool professional and a thinker. Favre tends to be the bold gambler type. When I watch PM play, I see a calculating surgeon at work whereas Brett is more of a daring risk taker who tends at times to do things that defy explanation. As hot as Brett might seem in a particular game, I'm always waiting for the wild up-for-grabs throw that comes back the other way.
