I'm going to say that I have faith in our PGs. Melvin should look pretty good for us as a starter and Golden has great potential. The only downside to either of those players is that they're kinda short. I don't know who it would be, but I'm sure we'll face teams with 6'5 PGs, and that concerns me a little.
Bottom line, I think our starters will hold their own, and I think the biggest key is how our bench performs (which I have tremendous faith in). There are some naysayers, but I think McRae will have an immediate impact at the 2 (No, he's not a PG or SF), and I'm hoping Maymon, Hall, and Woolridge will also be able to produce.
Indeed, I have seen our guards at all but one Rocky Top games. Some people think that carries zero credibility, but I disagree with that. However, I'm certainly aware that their play in the RTL does not translate to the NCAA, but you are a fool if you think it yields no indication or preview of what some of our players will look like the following year.
I refuse to argue RTL credentials, but that is what I'm basing my faith off of concerning our freshmen.
No, people that think that they can project how a player will play against top-flight division I competition based off a league with NAIA players that play absolutely no defense have absolutely no clue what they're talking about. Look how well that worked for everyone pretending Hopson was going to be a 1st Team All-American after he beat up on some guys from LMU in the RTL.
I think the key to this season will be the fact that the Vols must Score more points than the other team by the time the final buzzer sounds. I think if they do, then they will likely win. If they don't score more points than the other team, then I think they will probably lose.
These are of course hunches.
If you REALLY want to go this route, you'd have to say that the services of Yahoo! Rivals and Scout.com are COMPLETELY irrelevant. If you apply your logic, how in the world could you evaluate any HS player in any sport?

I read his comment the same as you, and it baffles me how you come up with this reply. What I take from it is this.....
The mans point is that all ranking systems and league play BEFORE Division one should be taken with controlled enthusiasm, due to the fact that the competition level, learning curve and speed of the game are nowhere even close to what they will face. Sure you can get a small indication, but its still not very accurate.
If summer league play reports were even 50% reliable, Kentucky's two biggest stars in the last 10 years would be Josh Carrier and Matt Pilgrim.

Exactly. To this guy, if UK's Freshman could beat up on some guys from Cumberland College, this is a foolproof indicator of success.
