What do you think the biggest key to this season will be?

Will it be how Brian and Hopson respond being the leaders of the team? Will it be if Hopson can dribble and be agressive this season? Will it be how does Brian handle being the big guy in the paint without Chism? Will it be how well our freshmen class produces?

Just wondering what you guys thought was going to be the biggest key for us this season.

Williams will be the biggest leader of the team IMO....he's been working like a hoss this off season....Hopson needs to step it up...he looked good in the Lebron camp, hopefully it'll carry over into the season

I think our guard play will be fine. Goins showed that he's perfectly capable. And between Tatum and Hopson, I think one of them will step up and have a big year (I'm thinking Tatum).

I think the key will be the offensive production from our front court. On our off-shooting nights, will they be able to grind out the tough baskets underneath?

Who starts a BBall thread less than two weeks before football? J/K. I agree with golfballs. Replacing Chism will be tough. We need someone to step up down low.

Thats a very good point. Last year when we had off shooting night, it was pound it inside to Chism and let him go to work. I'm hoping that we can do that with our bigs this season too. If not, it could hurt us.

I agree replacing what Chism did for us last year will be hard to do.

What about defense?? One of the primary reasons we were successful last year is because we stepped it up on defense. I definitely think we will regress in this category after losing Prince and Chism. Can we expect our offense to be better, or are guys going to have to step it up on defense again this year?

Defense is my biggest concern. I think Brian will be able to hold his on this season. Losing Prince is really going to hurt us on D though. Maybe Jordan or Tatum will be able to pick up on some of the lockdown D that Prince was able to give us. I think as the seaon goes, we will get better on D. JMO

How well we replace Prince (the second half of last year's version) and Chism is the key to this season. If success is contingent on Hopson's improvement, then we're not in very good shape.

Goins is a good player, but he takes too many threes. I remember seeing his shots getting swatted, because he was muuch shorter than the man defending him.

I completely agree. These are the two that will be the most difficult to replace and the most crucial to our success.

Can Brian/Melvin keep up/build on their play in the tournament? Will Hopson/Tatum become the go to guy in the backcourt?

One of these is the key.

I'm going to say that I have faith in our PGs. Melvin should look pretty good for us as a starter and Golden has great potential. The only downside to either of those players is that they're kinda short. I don't know who it would be, but I'm sure we'll face teams with 6'5 PGs, and that concerns me a little.

Bottom line, I think our starters will hold their own, and I think the biggest key is how our bench performs (which I have tremendous faith in). There are some naysayers, but I think McRae will have an immediate impact at the 2 (No, he's not a PG or SF), and I'm hoping Maymon, Hall, and Woolridge will also be able to produce.

Call me crazy but I have three keys to the season.
1. Point guard play, like Chris4Vols22 said I have faith in our PGs, if they can get the ball into our playmakers like Harris, Williams, and all those other guys, and also score when they have the opportunity to do so we will be fine.
2. Frontcourt play, there are probably going to be some games that we won't shoot the ball particularly well, if that happens our frontcourt guys will have to grind out and score for us. Last year when would not shoot the ball well we would pound the ball inside to Wayne Chism and let him go to work on offense, if our frontline guys can do that that'll really help.
3. On the ball defense, who's going be that one that'll play good on the ball defense, last year J.P Prince was our best on the ball defender, we seem to have quite a few guys that are good shot blockers like Hall, Fields, Harris, and Williams, but who's going to be that one that'll get steals and play good on the ball defense. Cameron Tatum seems to be a guy who could play good on the ball defense. Sorry about all the errors and all that but those three things to me are the keys for a return to the elite 8 and quite possibly a final four run next year.
