What do you think is Heupel’s best attribute as a HC?

He NEVER criticizes his players. Even when they play a bad game, he shifts the focus to something they did well.

…and he does it in a completely non-Butch-Jones style, too. He’s not full of hokey platitudes, he just chooses to focus on the positives in public.
Very, very rarely. Moreso for decisions off the field than on and even then he usually changes the subject.

He has one of the top offensive minds in the country. One of the biggest strengths is the up tempo offense, when it gets going it’s very hard to stop. I would also add that his relationships with his QBs always seems a strength, he gets the best out of them. Finally, he does well scheming to his strongest offensive players, finding ways to get his best players the ball, particularly in the passing game.

Honestly, OP, it has to be his gimmicky offense and the way it helps the QB’s. If not for that, at best another Butch and, at worst, another Dooley without it.

He was exactly what we needed at the time. He came in and changed how people viewed Tennessee within a couple of years. Whether we can take the next step remains to be seen. But we are closer now than we’ve been in 20 years

I think he’s an extremely honest/ loyal and ethical human being. I would want my child playing for him ahead of any UT coach in my lifetime. Other than the gum I’m extremely proud of how he represents this university.
I don't know this for certain but I think the gum chewing comes from allergy and sinus issues. I have bad allergy and sinus issues especially this time of year and I can't take medicine because it jacks my BP up. I bet he has the same issues because he's always coughing. The gum helps

He is extremely competitive. He doesn’t wear his emotions on his sleeve but if you really look closely, he absolutely HATES to lose. At heart, he is still that OU QB who basically willed his team into a NC

He seemingly runs his program pretty much by the book

Five years in and you hear anything about any real NCAA issues from him and staff? I don't mean the ticky tack you texted someone 20 seconds too early or a recruit got too much cream cheese for his bagel type stuff.

If nothing else, our program seems to have a direction of being ran as transparently and cleanly as it has it a long time
