What do YOU think about Derek Dooley?

He said Yes to Tennessee so he is our family. I am thankful it wasnt Cutcliffe. As to whether he can be successful, I say case in point Gene Chizik and Lame Kiffin proved a point. they proved if you have deficiencies they can be overcome by the right people surrounding you. I am happy with CDD but if he rtains Kippy and Thompson Ill be stoked.

I would think Derek has a hell of a lot more football knowledge considering his family tree.
Vince 25 years at Georgia and a National Championship.
His uncle Bill was the coach At UNC, Va Tech & Wake Forrest.

And he played for George Welch at U Va.

IMO Derek's pedegree is a whole lot better than LK.

Ill admit it I was like WTF man really the LT head coach but I like the guy from the presser and how he actually shows emotions with his players. I was all for Kiffen but something just rubbed me the wrong way when he didnt even flinch after the Gator-aid bath following our victory vs GA. I mean c'mon man 1st SEC victory and no emotion. The only emotion I saw was when LK pummeled poor cromp daddy.

Now that I know a little more about this guy I'm willing to give him a chance and back him until he proves me wrong.:zeitung_lesen::crossfingers:

Man, not to be an ass. How many of you have been ranting about the terrible situation we are in and how this is embarrassing, but now he has 1 press conference and your loving him. I bet most of you think Fox News is actually news...

Don't get me wrong I hope he is very successful, I am a 3rd generation Vol. However, like he suggested, don't throw your arms around his neck just yet, let it marinate. In due time it may be fantastic or we may have to change our recipe.

Clearly an intelligent guy though, which makes one wonder how sincere he is. Kiffin was dumb enough to make his true thoughts obvious.
Well...I agree.

Dave Clawson was a swell guy in front of the camera too...doesn't necessarily make him a good hire or fit.

I think he's a bottom of the barrel kind of coach, in relation to our program. I always question coaches, like Cutcliffe, who jump at the first job that pops up, that appears to be a promotion...when in reality it's a dead end. That's what Cutcliffe did when he bailed prematurely back in 98, and during his short stint from 06-07.

I have no problem with anyone trying to "Move Up" the ladder...but some rungs have rotten wood, and you have to watch your steps more carefully or you end up falling off the coaching ladder altogether.

If Dooley was a good coach, he should've had more patience and waited for an opportunity to move up at the right programs...where you have a legit shot to succeed. Many of these jobs are coaching graveyards.

Because of their hasty decisions, we currently don't have much of a successful resume to go on. Top jobs in the industry go to top prospects. Why should it be any different in football. Why do we always have to settle for less than inspiring and hope they pan out?

That's what we did with Clawson, and we saw how that worked out.

Best of luck to the guy. I have a feeling he wont be here in 5 years (going to Georgia or just not having success), but you never know.

I'm willing to buy some tickets and show support for the guy. Sounds like he sort of lucked into a good spot this week and was excited.

He's already said he makes his own path. Daddy already did it at Georgia. He's gonna make his name at UT.

GO VOLS!!!

I think this hire can turn out to be a good one... I think you got some one who will be hungry and come in with a chip on his shoulder.....:good!:

Kiffin always reminded me of fake boobs...lots of potential but still fake.

daddy went to school at auburn and coached at georgia and son went to school at virginia/geogia and coaching at tennessee..seems to be a family that each individual thinks for themselves..how odd:crazy::crazy:

So is Mike Shula's...so we're good with that? Another Mike Shula or Dave Clawson?

Ah, the endless contempt of the dullards for their betters. Intelligence and sincerity have nothing to do with each other.

Everyone hated the hire earlier because he was at Louisiana Tech and they'd never heard of him. Now they have more information about him, and they saw that he's a pretty engaging guy, so they're trying to embrace him. What's wrong with that? It's no more irrational than rooting for a sports team to begin with.

Sorry Gotta throw the BS flag here.

How come Clawson & the Weasel had the same record this past season? I would think that the weasel had more to work with at UT than Clawson had at BGSU.

Maybe you ought to find something else to do on fall Saturdays for a few years. This is the guy. None of us have any say-so in it. You can either be miserable about it, or you can try to support the guy until he at least proves that he's a failure in fact rather just in theory. Your choice.

I'm not saying that you don't have a right to be outraged and annoyed at what's happened in the AD recently, but......I just don't know how much point there is in it. Either you're going to watch the games or not. You can choose to hate the guy right from the start or not. It's not his fault he got hired.

Cautiously Optimistic is how I feel about him but I think to sum him up in a word... "Genuine"

Here's hoping for a good 2010 season.
/Already has more bowl wins than Quittin

Dooley did not ride anybody's coattails to get to where he is. He struck out on his own after a stint as an assistant (unlike Shula) to get to where he is. Spare us the lame comparisons.

All we have so far is a first impression, and as they say first impressions mean everything, and i think this guy is very classy, very respective, and a great personality for the circumstances. He may not be the big name, with the big coaching staff that lane was, but he also lacks the big mouth that lane had, and in my opinion thats exactly what we need. We need a coach with southern roots who understands what football means to people in the southeast. And for all of those that say as soon as the georgia job comes open this guys gone too, those are most of the same people that wanted the big name like muschamp. And you don't think he'd been gone as soon as Mack retired? This guys gonna bring alot of class to the program which is what tennessee's all about, do you see saban or myers having to talk trash to get attention? No they do it on the field. Will he win? only time can tell, but with the situation were in right now i say we can only go up, so for all the people hating on him cause they've never heard of him, i say give the guy a chance and embrace him into the family, thats what a real UT fan is all about!

Very impressed with his presser...I think that UT has the guy...this will work out I believe.

How fun would it be to take a coach with some class and meet up with the three douches now at USC in a few years and tear them a new one? I am hopeful anyway.

I haven't studied LaTech records??

Ok. You're right.. I went and looked up 2009 statistics.
Louisiana Tech Football Ranking Summary

i don't see what all the fuss is, they were ranked 46th in scoring offiense, 5 spots ahead of UGA and 60th in total defense, 8 spots ahead of auburn..

GENIUS!
