What do YOU think about Derek Dooley?

I was listening to the press conference in another room, and thought he sounded identical to Fulmer. Anyone else think this?

He said, "yes sir" and "yes mamm", which will go over big in living rooms across the south. He doesn't sound like he's from Minnesota. When asked to take the Kiffin bait on ESPN, he acted with integrity. We'll have an idea what kind of recruiter he is by weekends' end and we'll know what the current players think in the weeks to come. I can back what I've seen so far.

I'll be the first one to admit that I had never heard of this guy before today but his first impression was a good one. Recruiting at LA techs gotta be hard surrounded by the big dogs and not having the monetary backing that we can afford him. W-L record is not the greatest but that could reflect the talent he had to work with. I know that he took some good teams to the wire so I hope the X's and O's and coach factor are good. Anyway, welcome aboard Dooley and make us proud!!! Now go get the recruits and bring some more great coaches in to fill the staff.

The more I hear the more I like. I'm behind him 100% until he gives me reasons to not be behind him. We have to give him 4-5 years to turn us around no matter what. Kiffin and Fulmer left us in a mess.
This is pretty much how I see it.

I like his personality. I like that he has southern values. I think the next two weeks will be a rollercoaster and though I don't expect any home runs in recruiting, boy wouldn't it be nice to get a couple. I'll wait to see the team he puts on the field before I decide if I think he's a good coach. He's inheriting a mess. As long as the players play hard and give their all, I'll be happy next year. The true test is 3-4 years down the road when we see if we improve year to year. Time to move forward.

I like this guy for the simple fact he had enough Balls to take the job and like he said, leave his comfort zone where he had it made. He had 2 #1 recruiting classes @ LSU if I am not mistaken. He will at least bring honor and class plus discipline to UT. He acts like a friendlier version of Saban, and that is not a bad thing. Anyways, that is my .02 V,B.

I am glad we can train him for Georgia

Vince Dooley played at Auburn but became a coaching legend at UGA. Derek Dooley is his own man. I don't see him walking in Daddy's footsteps. Here, he can build his own legend, and not just be known as Vince's son.

My thought: It's not Cutcliffe.

Not sure what would even be fair to expect given the situation he's decided to put himself in, but wish him the best of luck, obviously.

Derek Dooley knows football and seems to have some morals (unlike the band of thugs we were so fortunate to get rid of).

Welcome Coach Dooley!

Man, not to be an ass. How many of you have been ranting about the terrible situation we are in and how this is embarrassing, but now he has 1 press conference and your loving him. I bet most of you think Fox News is actually news...

Don't get me wrong I hope he is very successful, I am a 3rd generation Vol. However, like he suggested, don't throw your arms around his neck just yet, let it marinate. In due time it may be fantastic or we may have to change our recipe.

Clearly an intelligent guy though, which makes one wonder how sincere he is. Kiffin was dumb enough to make his true thoughts obvious.

Good to see how happy you all are that you're getting a head coach taught by the best coach in the nation. You couldn't get his other student from Texas, so I guess you didn't do too badly with your hire.:good!:

Everyone was also saying the same thing about Muschamp.

Dooley's whole family went to UGA. He was a walk on at UVA and then ended up becoming a starter under George Welsh when Virginia had some good years. I don't think we have to worry about the Georgia thing. I got the feeling of commitment from him. I think he was a good hire.

Ya'll can razz me all you want but I have tears in my eyes right now. It's obvious that CDD understands and respects our traditions and expectations. I'm afraid that if we'd stayed on the path we were on we would've lost both. I still care about Vol football and I think we have a coach who can take care of business.

I think Dooley is the right guy for the job, considering everything that has happened lately.

He is a man of class, and a good coach IMO. You guys are lucky to have him.

I think he will do quite well at Tennessee. I wish you guys luck with him.

Allergies?

Best of luck to the guy. I have a feeling he wont be here in 5 years (going to Georgia or just not having success), but you never know.

I'm willing to buy some tickets and show support for the guy. Sounds like he sort of lucked into a good spot this week and was excited.

you know something VHB, I was very skeptical before the presser but now I'm sold...I will support this man unless he gives me reason otherwise...I'm really digging this right now, all I can do is pray for the best and not focus on negativity like some on here.
