What do YOU think about Derek Dooley?

Are we sure he wasn't raised outside of Neyland. Family man by all accounts, straight shooter, a wife whose is a doctor, a son nanmed Peyton and a southern twang. Heck he even talked more highly of Vol traditions and Gen.Neyland in 1/2 hr than Kiffin did in a year. Where's my "Get'm Dooley" shirt!

Ok, I think this guy is gonna be special. Now can someone find out what the buy-out clause is? I hope it says cant leave to GA or you owe us your first born. Besides that, I think he's gonna be good. Just Dooley It!!!!

The guy was truly humbled to be named the coach at UT...that's what struck me. Seemed genuine and someone that's not into himself. Great hire...he will get it done!

I like him as a person. But will develop my opinion of him as a recruiter and HC as we go along. But so far so good! :)

many believe anyone that's not in the BCS conf is automatically D-III.

Sadly those people seem to be the most vocal.

I agree the WAC isnt the SEC, but its not D-III either.
Some people just need to be educated I guess.

Has anyone ever seen Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights and Coach Dooley together in the same room? ...at the same time? Hmmmmmmm?

I think you see where I am going with this...

Confident, focused and delighted to be here. No arrogance or pomposity at all. He's not going to be as "fun" but that's good IMO. Go DD and GBO

im not gonna lie, I liked kiffins arrogance, BUT its nice to have a southerner that shows class and respect to other people. I like this guy and i think he is just what we need, and to all the people that don't like the hire. TOO BAD he is our coach and either jump on the dooley diesel or get ran over!

Well I posted earlier today in a couple of threads that I was NOT happy with the choice made today.

Having watched the PC tonight...or at least the part that ESPN NEWS aired...my feelings have changed.

I like how Coach Dooley...yep I said it...handled himself and I liked what he had to say.

The guy was thrust in a short period of time into the spotlight after having met with and having to say good bye to his former team...being introduced to his new team and then rushed off to do a live PC... that doesn't make for an easy day and actually it's only been a half day for him since the contract wasn't signed until late this afternoon.

Oh well...bottom line...he is UT's coach and I'm more than willing to give the man a chance and after listening to him tonight he's already began to "earn" my repect.

GO VOLS !! :rock2:

I like the guy. I'm glad Cutcliffe didn't take the job. After hearing him speak I don't see how cut was offered ahead of him.

Two things about his press conference. First, unlike Kiffin, he has only had a few hours to prepare and so he had less details about what to expect. More importantly, I like that he talks about process. All those successful coaches are "process" guys who believe a strong process leads to good results. He made one comment that was almost a direct quote on process. I also like this guy's personality better. Kiffin was John Wayne. This guy seems like Dwight Eisenhower--very competent, will get good results, but we'll remember the players more than him.

Despite the record in a lower league I'm impressed by the guy. Looking forward to Integrity and Focus replacing Flash and Dash.

After hearing the PC...If this guy can recruit talent...I think he can win big. As much as I hate to say it...he has that straight forward Saban style with Humor. If he can swing back most of the recruits he wins game 1. How could any kid want to follow a DBAG like kiffin instead of a guy with this type of integrity?

I wasn't really happy about this hire earlier today but I began to change my mind when I read some posts from other sites. I think Dooley handled himself well this evening and I feel a little better at this point. I know its superficial but I like having an intelligent coach with a Southern accent! Go Vols!
