I'm not bashing Cutcliffe, but I do have a better feeling about Dooley than I did when I read that Cutcliffe was the "new head coach at UT". Now, this may just because I'm glad the Vols are done with this roller coaster ride of a coach search. Cutcliffe is my boy and I still think he was awesome while he was here, but I just don't think that he has the "it" factor to carry this program into the future.
I was doing some research on Dooley and saw that he was over recruiting during his time at LSU under Saban. This combined with Dooley's experience in the pros are both definite pluses. I read that he was also the athletic director at La Tech; this leads me to believe that he has the ability to assemble a good team of coaches. Dooley was an attorney before becoming a coach, does this mean he has the intelligence and wits required to take UT to bigger and better places?
We've already had a son of a legendary coach lead the team. I'm not sure if I can count that season as a success because we won one game over .500 and the awesome recruiting class somewhat came apart after his departure. But maybe Dooley is different.
Here's the equation:
son of Vince Dooley + asst. to Nick Saban at both college and pro level + over recruiting while under Nick Saban (natl. champs 2003) + head coach that had a 17-20 record in the WAC (biggest win against Miss. St.)+ ex-lawyer? = Great Coach?
