What do you anticipate the Cal game looking like?

Our defense will look awesome like usual....Our offense is going to look as good as it ever has.....I think our defense will keep Cal's offense off the field and put them in a lot of 3rd and longs.....I think we'll open up this year with a good start...We have to beat FLA though to start the year off with some momentum

We may have to beat Cal to start the year off with momentum. And if our offense is going to look as good as it ever has, then we should start buying our tickets to Tempe.

True....but we need to beat Florida to start out with some momentum in the SEC

Amazing since I get to watch my first season opener live in 7 years!

I see the D setting the tone early. Cal is still shakey at QB and Chavis needs to rattle whoever they start. Rattle the QB and it all boils down to stopping Lynch. The O also needs to give the D a breather every now and then. They ran out of gas last year because we couldn't sustain a drive ever. 27-14 Vols.

Where do you see the humor in what I posted? :moon2:

I laugh because you have absolutely no basis nor evidence to claim our offense will be better than ever.

Don't get me wrong, I think our offense will look much better than last season. But then again, cleaning up pee is better than cleaning up poop.

I didn't say itd look better than ever I said it'd look as good as it ever has.......that's what I'm hoping for....I think Cut will turn it around and get our offense back to form, that's why I said that

The best offenses of Tennessee past had better talent that we do now. Also, it's probably going to take longer than 1 offseason to get everyone on the same page with what Cut wants to do. Don't get me wrong, I want us to be as good as we ever have been on offense, but to say it will is kind of silly. Of course we're all HOPING it will.

Just saw where coach Tedford benched their starting QB in Cal's opener against the Vols......this is at minimum per coach Tedford...source ESPN.com

From what I've read, that kid may have a lot more to worry about than just being benched.

Steve Levy is anywhere from 3rd to 4th on the depth chart, so not sure why people say he's the starter. He did start a couple games due to injuries in front of him, but even the article says he would be backing up Longshore and Ayoob. He may even be behind Kyle Reed.

This topic is so early that its hard to say. It depends on the health of our RB's. If Foster and Hardesty are healthy I think we will run the ball alot early and establish long possesions. Keep our young defense off the field as much as possible. When our defense is on the field they will be very aggressive with the secondary and LB's. Cal will not have sustained success against out defnese. I feel they will however hit maybe two big plays. At least one resulting in a long TD. In the end I think UTK will win the statistical categories big, but win the game small in a low scoring afair. In other words we will pile up a lot of yardage but settle for FG's. If RB's are not fully healthy by then and Cal knows we are thowing the ball a lot it might be a different story.

I think it will be a long, tough slugfest. However, the game is kicking off early enough that Cal's players will break down because of the heat, and I believe we pull away in the 4th.

Good thing I checked. We would have double posted.

I always fear situations like this. The second stringers have more to prove...that means pressureve more determination as well.

levy is suspended for the tennessee game for a fight in a bar. :biggrin2:

Levy is listed as either 3rd or 4th string in all publications. Doesn't matter one bit for the UT game.

There has also been a thread started today on this.
