I'm only basing this off the past history of our coaches.

On the offensive side, I think it's going to look more like WKU (2014-2015). This will be Helton's FIRST time in total control and it's the only thing I'm really nervous about.

During that time they called an average of 555 passing and 450 running plays. (based on attempts and carries), Do you think Helton will call more running plays?

For our Defensive side, I think it's going to look similar to Georgia (2014-2015). I think Pruitt will still be the main play caller for defense.

Or do you think our defense will be something different? Thoughts?

Due to our OL, I'd just like to see our QB (whoever that might be) get rid of the ball QUICKLY and on target ala Brady & the Patriots against Seattle (2015 SuperBowl). He didn't even have time to find the strings on the ball - he just got rid of it pronto in order to minimalize that lights-out Seahawk DL rush. Some passes across the middle would be welcome as well.

Offensive scheme: huge change from spread to pro-style.

Defensive scheme: huge change from 4-3 to 3-4 (a bigger deal than it sounds).

Special teams scheme: ??? don't know yet.

Coaching mindset: big change from "don't lose" to "win".

Players mindset: ?? don't know yet.

I think we'll see much improved tight end play. Defensively, lockout blocking to buy the QB some extra milliseconds to check down to his best receiver. Also, adding reliable hands for the short dump to the cemnter to get the first down plus. I really think offensive line play will improve by having rb's and tight ends doing legitimate (reliable) blocking.

On a serious note, I believe we will see a much more physical team that won’t quit. From all I’ve read about Pruitt, he has zero patience with lack of effort or discipline in assignments. Pruitt won’t play favorites, ever. He’s going to play the best player every play. I’m betting he will take a Saban like approach on offense as well. He will probably have to remind his new OC to run the ball more on occasion during football games. The defense will be fundamentally sound, but will hopefully take a huge step up on aggression. We really need to lean on our defense this year for turnovers and to help keep us in close games. I think at the end of day UT fans got what they wanted, a true football coach.

On a side note, I think we hit it out of the park with Fitz, I’m excited to see some of the changes in the weight room this fall after he gets the team this summer.

I don't think the offense will change as much this year as it will two years from now. The offensive line just isn't good enough for them to do what they want physically. And on defense, it will be a couple years there too before the 3-4 scheme can really take purchase. But I do think we see improved conditioning and physicality on both sides. Special teams has me worried right now, though.

I think the biggest change will be the mindset of the players. They go from an"oh well,we tried" attitude to a "let's whip this team's butt today" attitude. At least that's what I think the coaches can bring out in them. If they do that, everything else falls into place.

I think we will look more like what Helton did at USC than at W.Ky. Like Helton said he wants a physical run game and to hit explosive passing plays too. We don't have a Sam Darnold at QB, so I doubt we pass as much as USC did.But they still liked to be physical in the run game. But when you have a Heisman candidate at QB and high NFL draft pick, then you throw it around a little more. We will probably see lots of 2 TE sets and a lot more TE involvement than we've seen in a while. That also helps out the OLine too. I'm not worried about Helton's playcalling, especially like I would be for a guy who has never been involved with calling plays.

Defensively I don't believe Pruitt will be making many playcall's. It may have to be run through him first, but he brought in a guy he trusts and knows what Pruitt wants done during games. He understands the value of trusting and being on the same page with his Coach's. A concept that Butch never learned. I'm sure JP will be heavily involved with what gets ran defensively but doubt he will be the main playcaller. Just a guess though. Think we will eventually look like what he ran at Ala on D but obviously we can't mirror that right now. His defensive philosophy hasn't really changed at any of his DC jobs. He wants his defense to make sure opponents know they are there, to play very physical, be prideful in their tackling, not give up huge plays and force turnovers. Also to be in the right position and not look lost like we have seen lately from our defense.

I think our OLine will be much better than what we saw under Butch. We had T.Smith, R.Locklear, R.Johnson and D.Brooks all getting their first starts as Fr or RS FR. Tatum was a Soph making his first collegiate start. Injuries, coaching and 5 guys making their first starts throughout the year as Fr or So were the main actors in the OLine play last yr. This yr that experience should pay off plus Hall supposedly being ready, Carvin is a big Fr Body that impressed Coach's, plus the #2 JUCO OL player arriving this week also. Our offense should be night and day from Butch's. QB being under center, not as many WR's on the field at once, a lot of TE involvement, much bigger and more physical RB's and very little RPO's from the QB. Not near as many 1-3 yr passes that are used as an extension of the running game. Few if any going into the Shotgun on 4th and inches or 4th and Goal at the half yard line.

What will change?
This for starters

"Everybody is talking about 'well, we JUST want to win this or that.' I think we need to raise our standards a little bit as a fanbase"

The defensive side is going to be interesting this season. I think we have a good idea based on prior experience what type of offense Helton will run. We don't really know what type of defense Pruitt is going to run in Year 1.

We expect a 3-4 type scheme in the future, but Pruitt has said he'll adapt to personnel and losing DK Jr makes it all the more difficult to do a true 3-4 in 2018. So we may see something like Pruitt ran at Florida State; a modified 4-3; or maybe a few different looks, with some 3-4 and some 4-3. Regardless, I expect some growing pains.

I think this team could mirror the Kiffin team. Not enough SEC caliber players as the season goes and injuries start to occur. I see a 6-7 win window, but just like that team I see a team that will overachieve their talent level due to the new staff. Win or lose, I think they will be playing hard til the end which will be a refreshing change.

Hopefully, a lot fewer critical penalties, especially from the OL in the red zone. Also targeting or after the play penalties on defense costing us fifteen yards and probably a key player sitting out. We shot ourselves in the foot so many times last couple years...geez! Correct the mistakes and we have a chance in every game. I agree with speeding up QB play and getting rid of the ball quickly and effectively.

hopefully good adjustments being made throughout the game instead of just at halftime or none made at all...:)

Those few milliseconds of indecision are often the difference between a 3 yard play and a 30 yard play.

I think you will find our defense finally staying at home (staying with their assignments) during plays.

I think the offensive line is going to be one of our biggest strengths this year. Less sacks allowed for sure.

I think you will see a defense who attacks the football on assigned blitz packages and corners who can stay with their man. I think you will see less over the top passes on our secondary.

I think the defensive line will be able to finally stop the gapping runs.

Our offense I believe will finally be able to throw the ball more than 7 yards down field and our running backs are going to pop some defensive players in the mouth if they try and get to our quarterback.

There will be significant yardage gained from our TEs.

Atleast 2 FB (Full Back) touchdowns this year.
