If you hire a coach that has a losing record and get rid of Lance Thompson for Sal Sunseri? Dooley was a spur of the moment hire with a famous daddy, while Sunseri was the flavor of the week. Neither has any ties to Tennessee and neither had really accomplished anything up to this point. They both rode on the shirttail of Saban all the way to a coaching gig at yes one of the biggest programs in the NCAA. Do you think Florida, South Carolina, LSU, Georgia, or Alabama would have hired Dooley to coach their programs?

You make a good point and it is disturbing. There is no way Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama or Arkansas would have ever hired someone like Dooley. I don't know why we did it has been as disaster.

I dont think Lance would be much of an upgrade either. Its a reason he was a LB coach and moved to Alabama for the same job. I totally agree with all you said though.

I just don't understand why we didn't get an interim HC like Arkansas did and give ourselves 1 full year to find the right guy. Why did we have to set the program back an additional 3 years? Yeah, Dooley came into a tough situation, but he's somehow made the team WORSE each year. You have to have a special talent to do that.

Unless you call your father DADDY,that comes off as a jealous slur. I do now believe CDD is not our answer but I doubt anyone really knew that 3 yrs ago. Hindsight makes anyone correct today.

Reicht is a good coach. Some on VN talk about how bad he is. I would be very happy if he were the coach at UT.

No...Where did you hear something like that?....Derek Dooley has no ties to UGA...His father does...Derek is a UVA alumni.

Dooley has more a tie to UGA than Gruden does to UT. Dooley coached there 1 year, plus his dad was HC there.

How couldn't you know that three years ago his resume was horrible nothing he had done indicated he would be a great coach

Ok. This wont be against your question but its related and I've heard it a few times in the past. We COULDN'T have and interim HC because we lost half of our coaching staff when Kiffin left. Even if you did have someone step in for a year who in the hell would fill the vacant positions. No coach in their right mind would work for that program because the new coach would probably hire a whole new staff. It just wouldn't have worked. Arkansas only lost Petrino. Well smith left for another HC gig but came back to help out. Hope that clears everything up for ya.

A losing record as HC at a lower tier school..yep, everyone knew. However I think most wanted to believe there would be success.

You know you are right on everything except for that whole "ties" thing. Most of the successful winning coaches have few if any ties to the schools they are employed through.

Lance might have made a good interim because he knew the system we were playing and could have done a better job making gradual rather than wholesale changes.
We might have been mediocre, but not the worst in the country.
