:good!: This. Also, you may want to look into LED TVs as well. They tend to be more energy efficient than LCD and produce better black colors. Also, a receiver will make things easier to handle in my opinion. You can run all your HDMI connections through it and be certain that all your devices will take advantage of your speaking set-up. The only thing is if you get a bunch of stuff you'll probably want a decent remote such as one of the Logitech Harmony remote. They are more expensive but you program everything on your computer and then it's one touch to turn on the TV, the receiver, and any device that doesn't use bluetooth to communicate (here's looking at you PS3 and Wii) and put them on the correct input settings. I seriously could not handle the hassle without mine.

I have a 32" Vizio plasma for over a year now with no problems with burn-in or anything, and we play the sh** out of some Midnight Club. Vizio's are really good tv's for the money, I agree with these other cats, if you can afford it, go big.

I personally think LED DLPs have the best pictures but they aren't as slim as most people want. They aren't good for hanging on the wall. A bit more bulky in size (less weight), but they are beautiful pictures.

I bought a 46 in lcd open box at sams for 550 bucks :) I've had it for about 6 months and love it.

i'm not understanding the RCA bashing, i've had my 42" RCA LCD for over a year now and have had no problem with it and am very pleased with the picture quality. no complaints at all.

Your lucky, I have had two 55inch HDTV Tv's go out within 6 months and to deal with RCA's customer service is a nightmare. I just plan to stay away from that manufacturer. Maybe they have done better with the LCD's but I will never buy a RCA product again.

Yeah I bought a Philips 46 in plasma for 625 and it was in perfect condition. The only thing was that it was a display unit but other than that, was pretty much just like band new. Got it from wally world by the way.

I guess I'm kind of scared to buy one that's been on display. Have no idea how long that things been on or what it's been through.

RCA bashing is pretty deserved. They were bottom feeders on just about every consumer rating magazine/list/website/etc. for the last decade or two at least. While they were good back in the day, the 90s did not treat them well and their products did not treat customers well.

Phillips and Magnavox were also fighting with RCA for a number of years. Seems that Phillips has turned their product lines around a bit and they are now some of the better ones on the bargain end of things.

So you recommend going display shopping bear? Did you have to talk them down a bit or what? I guess I can hit up walmart first - any other places?

Well I wouldnt say I recommend going out a display shopping, this deal just pretty much fell in my lap. We were at walmart about two months ago looking for a 32 inch for our bedroom. While we were at the displays the clerks were pulling a few tvs down. I asked what they were doing and they said they are moving them up front and they are going on sale because they need to make room for some vizios or something. I asked how much and after some communication and a little bartering I got the tv. I am not sure if walmart does this often or if I am tremendously lucky.

i have another Philips 50 inch plasma and the quality is just the same. I beleive that both are 10,000:1 contrast ratio tv's i believe.

online is by far the best place to buy flatscreens. just saving the tax is a big deal. i bought my 52 inch panasonic for $100 less than costco.

Just a few words from the plasma camp.

There's a critical distinction between image retention and burn-in. The first is temporary and the other is permanent. It takes quite a while (hours) to get image retention on current plasmas. It takes days to get burn-in.

It's a matter of taste after that. I find plasmas to look more natural and life-like -- maybe not what you want for gaming. I also find them to have much better color saturation and "richness". (I have both LCD and plasma). Price is equivalent too. The 42in entry level Panasonic plasmas are about 700 and they are very good.

Either is a good choice - best advice is to look at both and buy the one that impresses you the most with it's picture.

My appoligies, have no idea why I said my tv's were plasma, they are LCD's. Sorry I got plasma and LCD confused.......dont ask why

a built in digital tuner will allow you to watch over the air digital tv.......see the digital tv transition to get more info on it. Pretty much all the newer tvs have the built it digital tuners to make receiving digital signals possible. If you are running directly off of a digital cable box, you dont need the digital tuner because the box has one inside of it. Hope this clears it up for you.

u can get HD channels with just basic cable & no box. thats the coax straight into tv. i do a scan once a week because alot of times u can get movie channels & some premium HD channels. somtimes they only last a week or so then u may not get anything new for a couple weeks. then u may rescan & get something totally new. u always have ur basic HD channels tho, nbc, cbs, abc, & fox.

You must have a QAM tuner in your TV then.
