What could have been

Hurd was a dumbass. Kamara was criminally underused. Williams had a lot of maturity issues as well which you would know about if you followed his recruitment. A lot of it was on the kids, it was exacerbated by a void of leadership on our coaching staff.

As I stated in a related thread....

It doesn’t matter if you own a Ferrari or a rusted out Ford Pinto if you don’t know how to drive.

So true.

All our used car salesman could do was try to make a sale............

2 players I'm not sure how we let get away or why we let get away!

Jalen Hurd is closing out his college career with Baylor. I think about what could have been with him here. He finished UT as 6th all time in rushing and 341 yds from 1st all time or basically 3 more games. He only played 2 1/2 seasons and is 6th all time! WTH? He just had an outstanding season at Baylor: 48 carries for 209 yds and 69 receptions for 947 yds with a total of 1156 yds from scrimmage and 10 total TDS this year.
WTH really happened here? I know the speculation but was there something else I missed that was swept under the rug so to speak? Really wish it would have not ended the way it did. Another CBJ casualty.

Preston Williams just finished 2018 season at Colorado St. with 96 catches for 1345 yds and 14 TDs. Did anyone notice this? He's 1st team all American at UT with those numbers. Again WTH? The same question on PW. What really happened with him and caused him to leave and again another CBJ casualty!

Basically between the 2 players we missed out on over 2500 yds of offense in 2018! Let that sink in for a moment.

When we get 5* players we must find a way to keep them. Let's hope Michigan has the same "what could have been" thoughts after their former 5* DL that just transferred here. Can we have the same results here with Soloman as Baylor and Colorado St. just got from our former 5*s?

Thoughts VN and Merry Christmas!
If UT could play their schedule I’m sure they’d put up more impressive numbers.

I think we know that Butch set the program back by what happened with his players the last two seasons. Were hoping were moving in the right direction only time will tell.

Childish, self-centered kids will cause their own problems and I suspect that has lots to do with those situations.

Saddest part is that Kamara lost his best opportunity at UT because butch was force feeding Hurd to keep him here and Alvin lost lots of touches that he should have gotten.

butch lost Kamara several millon $$$$.

He could have been a 1st round pick instead of a 3rd rounder.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...It's all history now and meaningless.

VFL...GBO!!!

We will not have that problem with Pruitt. Butch Jones was a lot of the problem. We had Kamara and Butch didn't even know how to use him.

I agree but it’s not like Kamara was playing behind some scrub and I don’t remember any game we lost due to running back either.

Kamara was underused and it showed in his rookie season as he was 2000% full steam with no slowing down.

Similarly, what would the O-line have been like with Boulware and Jack Jones? I know Jack Jones got hurt, but that was another issue with players with CBJ.
Jones had a narrowing of the spine...not injury related.

Well, if Hurd had remained here, Kamara would not have gotten proper amount of carries.
Kelly would have started only one season here.
Too many stories about Hurds time at UT for us to determine what happened
My best guess is that Butch promised to hand him the keys to the backfield. No questions asked. When he had to split tike with Kamara, it hurt his ego and things went south from that point
Just my guess

Well past the point of worrying about these guys and the coach who brought them in. And as to your "we must blah blah", there ain't a damn thing I could have done about it. It's pretty much like the price of eggs in China; not worth the wear and tear on the hen's butts. Especially when I or anyone else here could not have done damn thing to fix it.

As to Solomon, who knows? If he has to sit out next season, we got a wait before we should start worrying about what he brings to the table. But for me to hold any hopes about what Michigan fans think seems like the biggest waste of time coming AND going. Screw Michigan.

Situation hurt Kamara because he lost status in NFL draft
Situation helped Kamara because he preserves his body while at UT with limited carries

Although he might have been a nice guy with good intentions, Butch Jones was probably among the least qualified men to ever be handed leadership over a major college football program. We could have had the greatest roster of talent in the history of football, and Jones would have caused it to underperform. His inability to win the SEC East, losing to UF instead of being on a 3 or 4 game winning streak against them, and then being hte architect the WORST season in the history of our program was the height of incompetence. Without Josh Dobbs covering up for him, we probably would have seen multiple 4-8 seasons (or worse).

Hurd left for some selfish reasons, but I can't really blame him up to a point because of all of the above. Butch Jones was a terrible hire. The only worse hire was making John Currie the AD. UT has had a very poor track record of late. I am hopeful that Coach Pruitt's hire signals a turnaround.
