What concerns me more than the O-Line

D-Line has no explosiveness whatsoever. Outside of maybe Tuttle and Gooden.

I'd like to see O line fixed first. We could have a good offense if they figure it out. Our secondary will be a weakness regardless of what happens on DL. I understand DL would help that but I'd rather have a strong O vs 2 avg- below avg units

Our O line stand there like statues and look at each other as a Def lineman ( or 3-4 ) run by them and kill our QB. What is the o line coach teaching these slugs? Similar play vs SEC teams will result in the top 3 QBS being injured by mid-season. Why cant we get quality players ( Smith is an exception) and teach them? All the other SEC teams have them. WHY not us??

Agreed. Phillips is one baddd 5 Star.
He hasn’t lived up to expectations but he isn’t bad, just not a great pass rusher. Very solid against the run, mad a few plays in his career by batting passes down.

Anyone else notice after the weather delay, Pruitt basically took over the defense. After the delay he was calling plays, screaming on the field, but before the delay he wasn’t..

You cannot win in the SEC without winning in the trenches. Both lines are bad. At least on the OL we have some depth.

I think we see a much improved OL and DL vs FL. No, I am not saying great. If they make improvements throughout the season, UT can still win 3 SEC games. But, it is going to be tough. I don't think they were fired up vs ETSU and won't be for UTEP. They will bring their all vs UF. The UF game will tell us all we need to know about being able to compete with and win some vs the SEC East, not including UGA. That is a loss.

Way too many plays for negative yards because of penetration. Gotta fix that. To me, its a problem that's handicapping our offense and making them play different. Hard to establish a rhythm.

There were WAAAaaayyyyy too many ETSU players in OUR backfield.
ETSU led the rushing stats before the weather break..... with ZERO yds gained ..???!!!!!
Don't know what went on during that break in the Vols locker room, but I'm giving our coaches a LOT of credit for waking the team up.
That said, a lot of those "blowout" points yesterday came from opportunistic one-off plays that while GREAT to see( because they say a lot about coaching, and the players attitudes) aren't the kind of thing that indicate the underlying strength of the program to go nose-to-nose and grind out a win against a QUALITY opponent.
Let's enjoy the moment and hope this game and the upcoming UTEP contest are giving the coaches and players the time they need to develop into a program that won't get embarrassed in the SEC.
GO BIG ORANGE..!!!

Gooden is fixing to change all that. He’s progressing quickly and will demand a double team which will free up a rusher.

He had 8 tackles yesterday, which for an interior lineman, is pretty damn impressive. After seeing him on Last Chance U, I just hope he goes to class and takes care of business on that front. The football front will be fine for him, he looks the part (against ETSU) we'll see in 2 weeks....

Right. We need to start looking for a new coach today!!!

Tennessee doesn’t HAVE an Offensive Line. It just has 12 guys that are over 6’2” and 285#s PLUS...in jerseys with numbers ranging from #50-#80. Who DON’T take direction very well. WATCH the game and see them standing STRAIGHT UP just WATCHING what’s going on around them.

We were on the News this morning here, and she said nothing about any OL problems or standing straight up -- maybe you're just seeing things incorrectly.

I thought it was said at the beginning of the season Pruitt would be calling the defense. How can you tell he wasn’t before the delay and then all of a sudden was?

Before the delay he wasn’t running around like a mad man calling signs and waving his arms in the air like a mad man and after the delay he was.
