What Can You Tell Me About The Vol Army?

.....So what you're really asking in the original post of this new thread is for RockyDoc (or anyone else who knows) to explain what RockyDoc meant in that earlier post. Right?

[/QUOTE]

No, and at the risk of being called a thin skinned ass for yet another reply, perhaps you should go back and read my first 3 posts.

Again, thanks for the click and any for any info you might have relating to the VOL ARMY.

Back in '02 or '03, there was a group founded called the Big Orange Army. They used to drive around in game day and hand out stuff. You could enlist and rank up, but the rumor was that they got a cease and desist order from the University for using the copyrighted logos and paraphernalia from the University. I thought they were disbanded but it seems they still have a Facebook presence.

Wow, that's not what I had in mind for the Vol Cavalry at all. I was more along the lines of "Come grab something to eat and a cold beer, and hey,,,,, check out this cool free Vol Cav coozie.

My idea was more of a coordination effort for the RV tailgaters that stay the weekend on top of the Civic Center, and not a business concern grubbing money.

I thought I had remembered something about an orange jeep and even a orange tank, but its such a fuzzy memory I actually thought maybe it was a dream.

That's not so surprising as there are big chunks of the late 80's and early 90's I barely remember at all.

se la vie

I believe the whole thing has just been a misunderstanding which is what sometimes happens when you’re not speaking face to face.
You all seem good people.
Let’s see if we can help the Captain get back on track with his Vol fan project.
A good weekend to all of you.

Yeah, well said. I think this thread is just about a fella trying to find out about some other fellas who once had an idea similar to what this fella is pursuing now. Who knows, maybe this fella WAS one of those fellas and is looking to relive past glory, see if others share in it. Who knows?

Whatever the case, I wish him best of luck, as a fellow Volunteers fan.

Didn’t the guy who started that also do something with that horrible Burt Reynolds movie? I heard it was his pittance for screwing up the LED monitors.

Seems like there were several that were being jerks on purpose and were called out. Then some of the ones that were being jerks on purpose and got called out for it acted all innocent.

We could all see it unfold and laugh.

It’s probably the same robot bickering with itself. Similar to Blippigate.

I keep hearing about the vol army, and I do have a faint recollection of something of the sort, but maybe I've just dreamed it or something.

When was it?

What was it?

What did they do?

What happened to them?

Is it still around in any fashion?

Thanks for the click and any info

I can help you with this. It was a bunch of former soldiers and Marines who couldn't hit double-digits on the ASVAB...were extremely jealous of the Vol Navy (which is known worldwide)...and were seriously tired of watching the Midshipmen kick the Mule Worshippers from West Point all over Philadelphia once a year. They rented a room at the old Fifth Street Hotel and made it their headquarters. I heard they ended up merging with the Salvation Army after their mascot, Clyde the Mule...who was in fact a miniature donkey...got loose and dry-humped the night clerk while he was changing out the trash cans in the lobby...

I jest, of course. But it was too good to pass up.

Have I heard of it? Yes. A long, long time ago. Nowadays, if I can remember what I had for lunch two days ago, I'm doing good. But let me think on it. I grew up just outside of Knoxville, and I come from a long line of lifetime rabid Vol fans. Lemme see what I can do.

I'd also suggest reaching out to the UTAD. There might be someone there who knows, or remembers, or can find archived information.

If I find anything, or not, I'll post it here. This is way pre-internet days, so unless someone has taken the time and effort to upload it, you might have to go bribe an old fart at an area Co-Op. They know everything.

Go Vols.

Thank You GreyWolf1129. Really.

That's not just some great information, it's chuckle worthy on several levels. I especially liked the double digit ASVAB reference, but the part with the little donkey and the night clerk had me literally bouncing up and down. Good stuff.

As far as reaching out to the Athletic Department, well, I'm not really that interested any longer now that I know it actually was a thing and not just a blurry spot in a dream. Originally I thought I might glean some information or advice from them, but after hearing about them I think what they had in mind is worlds away from what I'm trying to do.

Again sir, thank you for the insight.
