What Butch just did...

I'm still frustrated with the Florida loss but you know what I am sure Georgia is as well. I, unlike others here, do not think it had anything to do with play calling. More to do with players just not making the big plays...and yes I think Justin Worley would be the 1st to tell you that. Still I think Warrior Chief Butch Jones has galvanized this fan base. I haven't talked to any Vol fan that just doesn't think anything but the best about him.

I know no one wants to even think about his, but just how bad would the Vols be if Dooley were still coach. UT is in it's present state even with last year's highly rated recruiting class.

Would Dooley still be head coach had he achieved bowl eligibility in 2011 and 2012?

While there are a lot of things about this season that have upset me, there was one thing that made me ignore it all and be happy we are going to a bowl.
At the beginning of this year I saw us as a 5-7 team and said back then that i'd be thrilled going 6-6 and making a bowl. Granted a couple of the teams we played turned out to be less than expected there were also a couple that turned out better than expected. Who thought Ole Miss would've, at any point in the year, been in serious talks about winning the West or been the team to beat Bama?

So while there may be a few things that definitely need fixed/changed before we become a true contender, this year went better than I expected and I'm just gonna enjoy the bowl, win or lose, and be happy these kids get a few more practices. AFter the bowl is when I'll start worrying about whether or not some of the changes get made and hope that next year, if the changes happen, it will help fix some of the things that definitely need fixed.

Was beat Vanderbilt with basically our 2nd string. Sure we had a few starters playing, but we also had some 3 deeps starting as well. We have a tackle who has no ligaments in his knee. Reality is, that it has been painful to watch, but what this team did was just short of miraculous. The only way this team accomplished 6 wins this year, was pure and utter will power. These freshmen, and sophomores are some tough SOB's. Our juniors and seniors, what's left of them, are the grittiest group we've had here in a long while. This team has earned my respect this year. Fighters to the bitter end. No quit in this bunch. They are relentless. Hats off to them. GBO

Great post. Fought against the odds all year.

Also, anyone who watched the reaction in our dressing room after the game should do some self evaluation. Those guys and the coaches were tremendously happy, as they should be, because they had put everything they have into this season.

Very proud of them.

And they could have laid down and quit on numerous occasion, but they didn't. Not like it was in years past, future is starting to brighten up. Go Big Orange!

Many aren't understanding we didn't just field the same team we did in the second half against Bama or even as strong as the starting roster we put out against USU or ASU, we were literally playing guys who had barely gotten clean up snaps and that's not a dog on them because they stepped in and got the job done, it's just the cold hard facts you can't look at the score and stats as equal and say we didn't just gut out a bowl birth with the win last night.

Great post OP

Great Post!
I have really enjoyed watching the No Retreat No surrender mentality of these young men.
Like it or not... That isn't just the recruiting, its a sign of positive coaching. Coach em up CBJ!

Ranked 30th in the Sagarin computer ranking. Highest since 2007 team finished 15th.
Pretty good coaching job with the schedule and number of freshmen playing big roles. And the injuries.

I agree great job. Did any of you have moron vawl fans screaming at Jones to throw the ball late in the fourth quarter? Just wanted to know cause some moronic woman kept screaming throw the Damn ball with my son right below her. Other vawl fans agreed with her. I just kept thinking why would we throw it when all we had to do is run the clock out? Pretty obvious that was a pick waiting to happen.

And if Jones had thrown a int. in the fourth quarter that woman would of been yelling "HOW STUPID! ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS RUN OUT THE CLOCK" Its the advantage of knowing what's going to happen .....after it happens. A lot of vawl fans are experts at it.

I agree. Was really annoyed she kept cursing, then apologizing to my son. I kept telling my son to ignore the woman. Could not understand people's ignorance to the fact that all we had to do was run the clock out considering all of our wesponsors are hurt.

That is the hardest part for me to go to a game sitting in the stands. We had a young man two rows behind us that screamed all night long ridiculous things. I think he thought he knew a lot about football but the things he was saying was ridiculous. He kept screaming "why can't this team ever learn how to win"? Finally my buddy sitting a couple people down had enough and turned around and said "you do realize we are up two touchdowns up, right?

Excellent job coaches! We have been so decimated with injuries this year and we just kept digging until the very end. This schedule was literally insane. I can't believe we finished with 6 wins! Get healthy and practice, practice, practice. This bowl will keep the boys and coaches hungry. Winning is all about effort and now our team has proof.

I saw Barnett and Coach Jones at a couple of different points simulating digging with a shovel. Kind of old school Gilbert Brown style and wondered what that was all about. Then on the Butch Jones Show today he talked about digging for gold. Much better than the "feed the dog" crap that Dooley came up with. Coach Jones is awesome and whoever disagrees can go to H-LL:rock:

Thanks OP. I agree with your assessment.

And to the guy thinking "what if" with Dools. I was thinking the exact same thing today on a long drive to LA. Lower Alabama that is.
I believe we would be looking at a 3-4 win season seriously. The recruiting class would have been @ 30-40th year before last even if he had tried during the season. This year, let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say we finished 15-20th. No way his recruits could have produced like the ones that Butch has brought in especially in this years class.
Assume that Sal is still roaming the sidelines and Cheney is still running the mighty sprint draw offense. I'm seeing a split in the USU/ASU, a win over my Mocs (Lord forgive me), and one either UK/VU.
OK. That's it. Refuse to entertain that thought again.

I agree. People think his sayings and all that are cheesy and worthless but the players feed off of that and it actually works. I saw multiple players do the digging action Saturday. After all the injuries and what happened with AJ along with a few disappointing losses, this team had plenty of reasons to lay down like teams in the past. But they didn't. They understand that all the hard work they have put in can still be rewarded by a bowl game and taking a step turning this program around. Credit the coaches for giving them that mentality.

Yeah, but Vandy is basically playing 3rd and 4th string caliber players who might be MAC or OVC starters.
