What are your "sacred cows"?

Every department and govt. agency needs to be put under the microscope to find waste so we can reallocate the funds. Never cut defense. Search out the waste and reallocate the funds to other areas of defense that need to be bolstered, but I'm a strong believer that defense is a key component of govt.

Why not?

Because it's a sacred cow and we must spend more than the rest of the world combined on defense because it makes us feel cool.

**** budgets, **** the next generation we are enslaving with debt, and **** responsible government.

Is there a single conservative in the US who wouldn't freak out if we were 2nd in defense spending? I am not sure that there is. Think about that for a second...

I think POTUS, Congress, and every other high ranking govt. official should take a paycut. Considering how little they actually get done, they are way overpaid.

Trump and most of his cabinet only make a dollar a year.

Yeah, your not. I find it a complete waste of time to watch a game for what 2 hours or so for a 0-0 tie.

baseball is so much better, you can spend 5 hours for a 0-0 tie with one hit the whole game. and thankfully those guys dont move around at all

Because for all that they do for their country, the common enlisted man doesn't make near enough. They deserve better pay, better protection, better health care.... they deserve better. I'm not against cutting waste, but reallocate the funds toward caring better for our military men and women.

Huff, I'm not aware of your history. Have you spent much time around our military men and women? Have you talked to them? Do you really understand and appreciate the sacrifices they make? I'm just curious where your POV comes from.

So how much more should we spend on the military? Our entire GDP? 10x GDP? 1,000,000 x GDP? Somewhere there has to be a limit. We already spend more than the next 8 (or maybe 10?) countries combined. Think about that for a minute. Isn't that too much already?

I say cut military spending and EVERYTHING else, significantly. IME, the debt is the biggest threat to the US. Why we haven't set a target date for paying off the debt and put forth a plan/budget to accomplish that is absolutely baffling to me.

Good luck with that. The party proposing it would be digging their own grave. That would require major cuts in big areas. The Repub she would have to cut the military, then Dems would have to stop enabling worthless people.

What on earth does this have to do with the military budget?

One of my best friends in the world is an Apache pilot. He's the man, but it doesn't mean we should go bankrupt.

There is a huge wage gap between enlisted Soldiers and Officers (commissioned and Warrant).

Fwiw there is a lot of mismanagement is our procurement process that accounts for a large portion of our Defense budget.

I'm not really talking about how the military pays. In fact, i bet you could increase pay, still slash the budget by 50%, and easily have the strongest defense in the world still.

Where did I say to increase the defense budget. I simply stated not to slash it. I specifically said to cut the waste and reallocate those funds toward our soldiers. Reallocate does not mean increase, it's all about using the money in more appropriate places.

I grew up on Navy bases. I've seen the sacrifices the common enlisted man makes. Separated from family, putting your life on the line, all for meager pay. As I stated in a previous post, it's not about increasing the military budget, it's about not slashing it. Waste can be eliminated and those funds reallocated to better caring for our fighting men and women.

The military budget needs to be significantly cut. The size can be reduced. We don't need to spend more than the next 6 or 8 countries combined. Let's spend enough to maintain a strong military, when I hear military people talk and say our military is too weak because we don't have the ability to fight wars in 3 separate countries anymore, i cringe. Why is that the goal?
