What are your areas of confidence or concern for Oregon?

Yeah, 4th string was Chris Harper a true freshman athlete who threw 3 passes 2 of which were picked..... he transferred to Kansas State where he is now a backup WR. And Darron Thomas who was supposed to redshirt but was thrown into that game in the 4th quarter and threw 3 TD passes and 210 yards is the QB now. The Ducks ran almost the whole game because they were so green at the QB position until the 4th quarter and they almost came back. I think it would have been an entirely different game had Masoli not been knocked out, last season however other than having an entirely new O-line was different and Boise State simply outplayed the Ducks which is something I could see happening again.

interesting......the past is the past

Since Oregon does run a high tempo offense that is one thing that I have seen a lot of is the opponents D getting worn down late in the game. Conditioning is a big thing for Oregon and because they are deep on both sides of the ball they tend to stay fresh.

Very true this is a new year with new players and new coaches and as we have seen any times before any team can win on any given day and that is why the game is played.

should be a fun game.....i hope we beat the crap out of you guys. :good!:

In other words, you're the anti-Vols.

All comments regarding the quality of Oregon's defense should be ignored. Issues start at DLine. I don't believe our O will overly expose them, but decent lines will crush them. "Fast" O will be a problem for that unit. The "freshness" factor needs to be saved for Tampax commercials.

Neither team really knows much about their team except they can outplay (shutout) a crappy team!

GO VOLS!!

I definitely don't want to make any predictions about the effectiveness of our defense, but I'd much rather see us defending a spread team than one that spends the game in the I-Formation running ISO plays and obliterating our DT's.

My thoughts, exactly.

Agreed. We aren't made to handle AL. We might stumble ass backward into figuring this one out.

there's a chance that Florida is going to line up in the I take it to us, too. They had success when they did that yesterday, and really only floundered when they tried to get too cutesy with their lateral passing game and screens.

They don't have a hammer back to pound from the I. Their line doesn't appear ready to pound anyone either. That said, I'd pound us all day. Our linebackers are quick and can defend laterally, or so it appears. Not so sure we can take the straight stuff.

You may know this: I was watching the Florida game yesterday, and the center was having trouble with the snaps. He also seemed to have to pull way over on many plays, which couldn't have helped matters. Has Florida always done this?

It seems exploitable if one can successfully guess when it's coming.

I keep getting the feeling that Oregon is geared up for a much better season than us, but we match up just well enough to pull this one out.

I don't think we can crash their o-line but we can keep things in front of us well enough to keep them from scoring in droves, then we just need simple mistake-free offensive play. That much I am not sure about. I have absolutely no idea how our offense will perform against their D.

If we pound it like I think we will, we might be able to burn them on some aggressive vertical passing plays. If we are too conservative, I don't think we can pull the upset off. But if we turn it over, we can't either. It's going to be a tight rope of a game plan.

I see Oregon coming into this game with a big head underestimating us. That spells trouble for them if they do.

I was certainly encouraged by the discipline our team displayed yesterday. The coaches were right there on anything that went wrong, and when players didn't do what they were supposed to, they could articulate exactly what they needed to clean up.

Discipline goes a long way when you don't have all the pieces of the puzzle

I have felt for a while that we may steal a win here and some of the things that I saw last night were reassuring. With that being said, I am concerned with Simms turning it over. I saw at least 2 throws last night which would have been picked off by FBS level DBs. If he really can protect the ball and we shorten the game, Neyland will be a big advantage in the second half.

not a chance, the humiliation of the boise st game is too fresh. some duck fans may be guilty of this but the coaches and players won't be.

I think the loss at the Rose Bowl would still have an impact on their game prep also. They were cocky heading into that game. The Oregon coaching staff will keep a tight reign on attitude for this game. I think nervousness will be a bigger factor, especially for thier QB. Their D will give Tenn problems all day and I just don't see Tenn outscoring Oregon. It really boils down to Tenns offense against Oregons D. Oregon puts alot of points up, has done so for several seasons since Chip Kelly came on board. 1st as an OC then as a coach. Tenn won't stop them, may slow em, but won't stop em. And on there side I don't see Tenn as having enough fire power to outscore Oregon. Oregon plays a rentless type of D. They are fast and swarming.
