In 1968, I watched from the fence line of an outdoor concert featuring Sly and the Family Stone and The Ike and Tina Turner Review. The Family Stone put on a stellar danceable jam, but Sly never took the stage (either he was too high, or there was a contract dispute).
I Loved Freddie and I remember the exact day that he shot himself and that they did not think that he would make it and him and Tony Orlando were close friends and it was hard on Tony and they both guest starred on each other's shows too, Freddie sang on Tony's show and did good and Tony was on Chico and the man.
