depends which kind you try. sam adam's is surprisingly pretty good. i'm not a fan of their lager though.

Left Hand, Paulaner, and Spaten all have very good Octoberfest brews.

October fest should be a strong flavored beer and the alcohol percentage is usually higher then normal. But I haven't tried the Samuel Adams Octoberfest yet.

Sam Adams doesn't have that hint of sweetness that Paulaner and Spaten present in their brews

That's probably becuase the Sam Adams doesn't have the high level of yeast as the Paulaner and Spaten.
